We seem to be cursed with full backs. I can now see us starting the season with Colback left back and Cuellar right back (assuming Gardner is suspended the 1st game)
http://http://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/no-chance-of-peruzzi-joining-sunderland-reveals-di-canio-1-5880980 GINO Peruzzi’s on-off move to Sunderland took another twist today with Paolo Di Canio revealing there is ‘no chance’ of the Argentine signing for the club. The protracted transfer was expected to be finally concluded in the coming days after the defender underwent a second medical examination. Peruzzi’s £3m switch to the Stadium of Light has dragged on for the last month after first being delayed over problems with the right-back agreeing personal terms and now an issue with the 22-year-old’s fitness. The Argentina international travelled to Wearside last week for a medical, which showed that the Velez Sarsfield man had some remaining damage from a knee ligament injury. But Di Canio, speaking at a press conference ahead of the Barclays Asia Trophy, said the deal was now off, stating that Sunderland needed players who were fully fit now to join the club. Di Canio said: “At the moment, there is no chance for Gino Peruzzi to join us.” A Velez club statement yesterday, had said that Peruzzi passed a second medical in Italy and his move was to be completed when Sunderland return from their pre-season tour of Hong Kong next week. “Sunderland requested permission to subject Gino Peruzzi to a final evaluation at the Clinica Deportiva Villa Stuart in Rome, which is directed by the renowned Professor Pier Paolo Mariani,” said the statement. “The evaluation had a positive result with Prof Mariani recommending specific work on the affected muscle area. “Meanwhile, Sunderland had travelled to Hong Kong for some international matches, so the English club’s authorities communicated their intention to sign the contract on the return of their president in the course of this week. “Our club’s entourage returned to Argentina on Sunday, anticipating that Gino Peruzzi will travel to England again in the coming days.”
Gutted about this. Cavanda's just signed a new contract at Lazio aswell so its back to the drawing board. I cant believe we havent got a single fullback in our squad!
I hope we will not panic buy but really I think PDC and his team have more about them than panic buys
Anybody on here play full back. I have a decent left foot but cant run more then 4 yards without needing a sit down. Newcastle have called me twice this week looking to get me on a free but wor lass want's me to tidy the basement.
I still can't see anything on ssn. As for the shields, it loves taking quotes out of context. 2 of their recent articles on JOS and PDC were complete junk relative to the headline. Not saying all of this ain't true, but I'm not convinced just yet.
Ill believe it once i see it in SSN. Espn 23/7/2013 Gino Peruzzi has been given the all-clear to join Sunderland © Getty Images Enlarge Velez Sarsfield officials are confident Argentina international Gino Peruzzi will complete his protracted transfer to Sunderland after the Black Cats received assurances over the fullback's fitness. The 21-year-old Peruzzi was expected the sign with the Premier League club when he visited England last week, but his medical revealed concerns over a ligament injury suffered last season. However, at the request of Sunderland, Peruzzi underwent further examinations and was cleared of any long-lasting damage. And now that Peruzzi has been given the green light by the medics, his current Argentine club believe the deal will be signed once Sunderland officials return from the club's pre-season tour of Asia. "As reported earlier, during the week directors Baldomar and Ordonez travelled to England with the player Gino Peruzzi to advance negotiations over the latter's transfer to Sunderland," read a statement on Velez's official website. "After agreeing contractual terms, the player underwent a medical examination. "The professionals found repercussions from the torn ligament Peruzzi suffered last April against Olimpo in the Copa Argentina, which prompted a three-week absence from games. "To obtain further information about the injury and its evolution, they made contact with Dr Ricard Coppolechia, who answered their questions. "After this, Sunderland requested permission to subject Gino Peruzzi to a final evaluation at the Clinica Deportiva Villa Stuart in Rome, which is directed by the renowned Professor Pier Paolo Mariani. "The evaluation had a positive result with Prof Mariani recommending specific work on the affected muscle area. "Meanwhile, Sunderland had travelled to Hong Kong for some international matches, so the English club's authorities communicated their intention to sign the contract on the return of their president in the course of this week. "Our club's entourage returned to Argentina on Sunday, anticipating that Gino Peruzzi will travel to England again in the coming days." Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, Sunderland are preparing to face Premier League rivals Tottenham in the Barclays Asia Trophy. The victorious side will move through to the final where they will meet the winner of the clash between Manchester City and South China FC, while the two losing sides will meet earlier on the same day. And despite admitting he always lusts after victory, Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio believes the match will be a better test of how his players are faring heading into the new season. "Always I want to win in any game," the Italian told SAFC TV. "Against Tottenham in front of most parts of the world on live television, the stadium is sold out, but it is more important for me to see my players in action. "I am sure they are going to give their best because it's a big opportunity for all of them, and the new faces that we have, to see the improvement individually, but more importantly collectively against a top side. "Ironically, we played the last game of the season against them. We know them approximately because they haven't changed a lot. "It will be a good test. Obviously, we can't see, I presume, for both sides the incredible intensity straight away because we are in the middle of pre-season. "But we will see straight away the desire, the attitude and the quality from both teams trying to beat each other."
I hope this means we make a real effort to get rose at LB. I think a RB will be easier to find. As players move towards the end of the window other players become available. Gardner is a solid right back to get us started, we just need to sign another before the end of the window. The LB situation is more serious if Colback leaves were going to need 2 x LB's in. We must step up interest for Rose, make a big offer and show we mean business. I listened to SNQ on the radio the other day and he was talking about transfers and was saying its very much a game of bluff and smoke and mirrors. It would not surprise me if we had other targets in mind and were keeping them under wraps until the time is right to strike.
Totally pissed off! Been sitting here waiting for 2-3 weeks, every single day being convinced that this is the day it will be confirmed, being told that the signing is as good as done, even being told at some point that it was on the ssn yellow bar across the bottom of the screen!!! Then to have this????? Proper kick in the balls!!!!
