Big rumours coming out of Spain right now. Tito Vilanova may have had a relapse of his tumour, and may be resigning. Surprise press conference has been called for later tonight.

That's desperately sad if so. But of course, football is a game and cancer is a matter of life and death.

Lets hope Vilanova is in good health, or if this is true, can regain good health soon.

Haddin needs to be far more decisive.

Australia have no confidence in themselves when deciding to review now.

I see that the Arsenal forum has an Ashes thread. Do you pepys want one..? Seeing as it wouldn't be a permanent fixture I think I can safely assume there wouldn't be an objection from the other mods. Say Yes or No and I'll start one and sticky it if I get enough Yayers. OK..?

And it's of no surprise. Clarke aside, they've not been able to bat for a while now. Losing Hussey so suddenly was a massive blow. Will they send out an SOS call to one of the many Aussies in county cricket right now, most like Katich, I don't know. I don't expect them to. (I say most likely Katich rather than the big man himself, because I really don't see Ponting coming out of retirement).

As for not enforcing the follow-on, I'm in total and utter agreement with Cook. It's day two!!!! We hardly need to wrap this up in a hurry. I'd arguably bat all the way through till lunch on day four, if we're not bowled out by then. Most likely scenario i guess though is that we'll bat until about 30 or 40 mins before the close tomorrow, with a 500 lead.

The bowlers have just bowled once here, and that straight off the back of the first test match (no week's rest in between). Let them have a bit of rest, whilst really grinding the Aussies into the ground. And on the top of that, let the pitch hopefully wear and crack, and then release Swann on them again over the last two days. Even Root.

Don't worry, I read both your post and DTLW's article, but I have a strong knack for reading things, finding them interesting, and then just not replying (I even do it in actual conversation sometimes). I find I frequently have very little to add and can't be bothered to make a cursory reply, probably why even though I spend a large amount of time on here I've never come close to 'placing' on a Beefy's.

Think my answer is pretty obvious, but I'm also not exactly in an impartial position!

I'm not really bothered but I would say yes, too much clutter for the non-cricket obsessed. I don't think it would be too bad to have the odd extra thread for long sporting events that will go on for a few weeks and draw much discussion, like the Ashes and Wimbledon and whatnot.

Forgot to mention [sorry], do you want it to start now or when the next Test starts..?

EDIT: One final thing, if I start the thread I won't maintain it if you'd like some sort of stats being kept upto date. If you want that, then someone else needs to start it and a mod can sticky it for you.
