Things is all those big inelegant players are all pretty slow, and because of our high defensive line they would probably be disasters as we would get caught with a ball over the top all the time.

surely there must be some kind of defender that exists who is both over 6ft but still pacey!? you can't just reach 6ft and suddenly slow to oaf pace? the difference between vermaelen at 5' 11" and djourou at 6' 4" can't be huge...can it!?

As good as Sahko may turn out to be he is still a young unproven French player who I doubt would be as good as what we already have as 1st choice defenders.

Sorry I wasn't making myself clear, I think the likes of Huth and Samba are too slow, not that all tall defenders are. Djourou works for us because he is very tall yet also very quick.

I think Hangeland is technically very gifted but I'll grant you he isn't the quickest! He makes up for that by reading the game brilliantly though. Meh, it's not going to happen anyway, I just like him as a player. Think it's much more likely that we'll get Samba to add some cheap(ish) muscle. I don't think that'd be the end of the world either as I'd rather we spend our money on a forward.

He'd also cost quite a bit if my experiences on Football manager is anything to go by (and anyone who says other-wise is rubbish).

i think you can rule sakho out. wenger has stated that he's looking for premiership experience. which fills me with hope that the deal could be done soon-ish as the window here has already opened. it hasn't, however, opened on the continent. so if they are planning to offload before they buy it could be another month.

I don't think Samba would settle for being 4th choice and they would probably ask for a lot for him

I agree I always knew it was going to be hard as everyone wants to play but we need at least 4 topdraw defenders and if we go late on in all 4 competitions again then they should all play a reasonable amount of games, dont forget at least 1 of them will be out for half the season with our injury record

it works sometimes, but sometimes it doesn't. if RvP had carried on being injured, Bendy probably would have been content to stick around for another year. as it is, he managed over half a season, played a blinder, and Bendy never got a look in.

it'd b just Arsenal's "luck" if they bought a CB, and everyone stayed fit for the whole season :p though I dare say I wouldn't mind that kinda bad luck one bit.

    We need Height and Power.

Football is a contact sport and people seem to forget this.

Personally I would like to see Neven Subotic at Arsenal and a quality exprienced keeper like Steklenburg.
