yep,ive seen him make to many mistake's,under no pressure at all that have led to goals.I know defenders can and do make them, but that's is when under pressure, Benny does it not under pressure and usually right in front of our goal

Walker has made far more glaring errors that led to goals than BAE, do you want rid of him as well?

Tots you make a lot of excellent points and posts and I could understand you not rating Benny as we all have different opinions but to say he is one of our worst left backs ever is quite frankly ridiculous. have you watched spurs over the last 25 years? Is walker one of the worst right backs you have seen as well then? I would say he has contributed to as many goals being conceded as Benny in their time with us.

It seems that Benny is like marmite, either love or hate him!!!

I think we'd struggle to replace him if he were sold. He does make mistakes, all players do.

Benny is a committed player and rarely let's either himself or the club down on the pitch and never off the pitch.

I'd be more than happy to see him start against palace on the 1st day of the new season.

Personally I'd like Rose to be our starting left-back next season. He hugely impressed last year, and we may risk losing him if we don't start playing him soon. We could regret that in a few years time when we actually have to replace Benny - and Rose is playing for England and Chelsea.

I've watched Spurs since the 60's.Walker didn't have a good season last year, but that was ONE season,Benny has been here longer, and hasn't improved, that is why AVB doesn't rate him.LikeWY i would like to see Rose as our starting L/B,he done well at Sunderland

Yeah, right! Jesus, could you imagine a list of terrible fullbacks Spurs have had in the last, well, however long you've been watching Spurs? It would be a goddamn MASSIVE list - we'd need a new thread. In fact it's much easier to name the good ones in the last twenty years, say. And one of the top names in THAT list would be BAE.

Of course it would, I can't believe that anyone would think differently. The current Spurs team is at a level that we have not enjoyed for many years. All the current players are pretty much better than what we have had for these many years.

But seriously - is there anything that you've seen him do in a Spurs shirt that gives you the impression he'd play for England and Chelsea?*

Yeah the noise from Sunderland fans has been good but I've yet to see it with my own eyes. Never saw it (or even a hint of it) before he went up there. To me he looked like a winger who couldn't cross and wasn't terribly dangerous who has been converted to a fullback who's not that great at defending (that's according to some of the Sunderland supporters who've praised him).

I'd love to be proven wrong but I wouldn't bet BAE that I am. Not yet.

*(Unless, of course, RA sells up/get arrested and all his assets seized/gets bored or whatever and they slide back down a division or two and the crowds get back to 12,000 or so)

Rose had a half decent season at Sunderland, it wasn't that great to be fair. Sunderland fans praised him highly because their whole team was **** and Rose was the only one putting in ok displays. With all respect to Sunderland, being the LB here and the LB there are completely different kettles of fish.
Benny maybe a tad too composed at times with his little Cruyff turns and occasional lack of concentration but he gets up and down well and really does help out on the wing when Bale has played more centrally. Like Lennypops mentioned, we've had a tonne of awful LB's over the years and when making a list of good ones, Benny, definitely comes to the top.
Rose, isn't better than Benny right now, maybe in a year or two (still debatable) but definitely not right now.
What amazes me is Walker was by far the worst out of the two full backs (in fact three, I think Naughton was marginally better than Walker) and yet no one is really talking about his place in the side.
RB is more of a concern to me than LB. I'd happily see Kaboul at RB for a few games with Caulker/ Dawson partnering Vertonghen.

Rose has spent 1 full season as a LB. Benny is probably the best LB we have had at Spurs in my time, we have had some absolute DIRE LBs. Rose is not a better LB at this time than Benny.
If Benny went to Sunderland they'd probably claim he WAS Cruyff.

I am all for bringing Rose back and having competition for left back but I would certainly start next season with BAE. If he isn't performing by all means stick Rose in and give him a chance. Then we can see if he is good enough.
I still can't believe you think BAE is one of our worst left backs tots, we have had some terrible left backs over the last 25 years (I don't know further than that as I'm not old enough!)
I know he is prone to the odd error as he does play more on the edge but he does so much more that is good and really do his mistakes lead to goals more than other players? I don't think so.
He is exactly the sort of player I love at Spurs. He makes you smile when he does his Cruyff turns or shoulder barges someone off the ball . And he is a bit mad as well!

Of those I can remember off the top of my head, LB's at the Lane have been (I think!) Edinburgh, Ziege, Thatcher, Atouba, Edman, Ekotto, Young-Pyo, Bale (before turning LW/ Superstar), Gilberto, Rose.

In my opinion Benny pisses all over them. Rose may well become better one day (I doubt it, though you never know) but right now, Benny surely has to be first choice, if his performances drop then give Rose his chance.

For the record, who would people have over Benny (excluding Rose), I.E. available options to us?

Tarricco. Did Zeigler ever play there? Clive Wilson...it really is a ****ing horror show! And we're not even cherry-picking the bad ones! We're just naming every one that comes to mind!

Yep, Ziegler played at LB, but more often left mid.

Ziege was the best of the rest that have been mentioned, but we got him too late. Ziege in his prime was maybe better than BAE, but the Ziege at Spurs wasn't.

Edman was fairly solid. Great goal vs Pool too. For me, in their Spurs times, he was 2nd to BAE

We had Justin Edinburgh at the club for ten years. I do believe that Dean Austin may have been the other full back for a large chunk of that.

Totsfan - I want you to read those two sentences slowly several times. I want the truth of them to sink deep into your heart and then I want you to mentally apologise to BAE.
