I really like Celtic's existing Wanyama chant, and it isn't to the usual do,do,do,do,do,do style we have come to know and loathe!

A beast of a player on his day, near impossible to push off the ball, good passer and he has brilliant feet for a big man. I hope he does well for you, mainly because The Holy Goalie plays for ye (but not so much Hooiveld or D.Fox) <ok>

    PS: It's still a step down <whistle>

Possibly. But not after a couple of more seasons.

Possibly. If you stay up (which I suspect you will, but it's not a certainty).

Yeah, those massive games against Cardiff, Palace and Hull, and let's not forget Stoke, West Ham and the formidable Mackems, either.

Good league, yes. The best? Nope, unless you're speaking about it's superior promotion, which is what you'd expect from Sky given the money invested.

I do hope he does well at Southampton, but you're merely a stepping stone to allow the genuinely talented players, like Big Vic, to get to one of the top 6 teams. Same as Celtic are nowadays.

I think the insecure responses to that jibe show there might be some truth to it ;)

There's an argument to be had, Celtic are a massive worldwide brand and play in Europe every season, but the Scottish league is not exactly the best in the world. I'd put us about even, but it depends what criteria you value.

<laugh> Of course the SPL is pish. It was pish even when the huns were in it, and now they're not, it's as dull as ****ing dishwater. You'd be hard pressed to find any fan of Scottish football who would try and talk it up.

No more insecure than the "best league everererer!" comments, which are the staple comfort blanket that every team outside the top 6 use. Everyone knows it's the richest, but not the best (£12.5m - cheers).

Hope he does well for you though, as he has earned his chance to mix it up in a better league after his fantastic CL performances <ok>

This is not a reflection on Celtic, but occasionally, for the last few seasons, I've watched Sportscene on iPlayer, and can remember the shock of the quality of overall play, the first time I watched a Scottish Premier League game. It wasn't poor, but I expected it to be a lot better. Repeated viewings have confirmed this opinion. The truth is, is that Wanyama is going to find life a little bit different in the English Premier League. There are a lot more players of his quality around and he won't stand out so easily. It's obviously one of the reasons why he's chosen to move - so that he can become a better player. The club is irrelevant, at this moment in time, providing it's one that satisfies his demands and he satisfies theirs. The ambition of Saints is one which I think will grow on the player, just like it has with every player who has been signed by the club over the last few seasons. Southampton FC 2009 -2013 is an entirely different animal to the little club you knew.

And everyone (you included) seems content to belittle it for reasons known only to themselves.

We know it's pretty crap, we, unlike you, watch it every week but not every game is a snorefest nor is every game lacking in quality, we get some great games and some crap ones, I can't think of a league anywhere in the world where that's not the case.

Why people like you want to demean it by indulging in childish cliches - which we have heard a million times before - I don't know.

Maybe you think it makes you sound funny to dismiss the quality of that which you have not witnessed?

Anyhoo but here's a thought, people at your club, who know a damn sight more about football than you, did not let their pre conceptions blinker them to genuine talent, I have a feeling that in time you will see that with Victor, maybe you will change your opinion or perhaps you will simply think (Literally) that Southampton got lucky and signed the only decent player in the SPL.

Good luck to Big Vic, He will become a favourite the first time you see him, people like you don't deserve him though.

Its not even a debate worth having, the SPL is a one league team now was a two league team a few years ago. Beating Celtic in the SPL is like winning the league for the rest of the clubs because its such a ridiculously difficult achievement for them. SPL fans deny it over and over again but its only banter, I would like the SPL to grow but its not going to anytime soon lets face it. The EPL is (and I'm sorry but this is a fact) the biggest and most watched football league in the world, it is also the richest and over the next 3 seasons will be even richer, individual clubs may not be as rich as Real Madrid or PSG but overall the clubs and league are much richer. So is it a step up? No I suppose not for the 6-8 games Celtic might play in Europe each season but with regards to everything else, yes it is a massive step up, whether Wanyama signs with Saints, with Cardiff or frankly with anyone currently in the EPL.

Was referring to our own fans with the insecure remark by the way, so not all of us are as arrogant as all that.

He played exceptionally well, home and away, against Barca, and other top European teams, which is a pretty impressive step-up for a 21 year old who'd spent his previous games moonwalk-dribbling around the sloth-like SPL 'professionals'. I'm not sure he's bricking it just yet about playing in the EPL.

 No one's debating the quality of the SPL. Like most leagues it has it's good games and bad games, but yes, overall it's pretty **** when compared to other leagues in Europe and elsewhere.

Not sure anyone has denied it either <doh>

You're comment comparing beating Celtic to winning the league is utterly moronic too.

Again, having the most money doesn't equate to being the best <doh>

I think in your fervent desire to chuck your 2 pence in, you've written a fair amount of bollocks. Well done.

Since 1992, Man Utd have won the EPL title more times than Celtic have won the SPL. The only time they lose the league is when another team spends ridiculous amounts of unsustainable cash to try and match them.

The SPL might be pish but it's honest pish <ok>

I dunno I'd say maybe top 8, but even then it can change from season to season, remember it was only the season before last that Newcastle finished in 5th, and not so long ago Villa and Sunderland were fairly strong sides in the EPL. Yes I do think english teams are poor in comparison to Europe some seasons but overall we have teams which really cause problems for the bigger clubs, so realistically I do think the EPL is the best in terms of how challenging it is.

What's the best league then? La Liga is boring and half the teams are bankrupt and therefore ****e, same with the bottom half of Serie A; Bundesliga is good but it lacks any sort of drama over the last few years, and the less said about Ligue 1 the better. I think it could be argued that Eredivisie was the most exciting top division last season, but most of the time it's not that close, and the teams are just not that good.
