Given our current squad (and lets include Wanyama) what do think will be our first choice starting 11 this season? Can someone edit the title please
Something along the lines of... ------------------Boruc------------------- ------Clyne Lovren Maya Shaw--- ---------Schneiderlin Wanyama------ ------Rodriguez Ramirez Lallana ---------------- Lambert ---------------- Well that would be my choice anyways!
As I posted in the Saint Victor thread. Boruc Clyne - Lovren - Forren - Shaw Wanyama - Schneiderlin JRod - Ramirez - Lallana Lambert I think that is/would be our strongest lineup, but different games require different sorts of players. We won't have a set regular XI for sure.
-------------Boruc------------ Clyne---Lovren---Astori---Shaw ---Schneiderlin----Wanyama--- Ramirez-----Banega-----Rodriguez ------------Damiao------------- I don't see any way this won't happen.
Lallana will have to really up his game if he hopes to be a first choice regular next season. ---------------Boruc------------------- Clyne---Lovren------Yoshida---Shaw --------------Schneiderlin------------- ------Wanyama-------- Cork---------- ---Ramirez---Lambert---Rodriguez--- My first choice as things stand at the moment.
Don't worry, he hasn't gone anywhere yet. I'd still be picking him and Morgan first, and slotting the surfeit of talent in around that pairing.
Very eloquently argued Godders, but you've committed the cardinal sin of people who consider their opinions inviolate; you've deliberately altered my quote to suit your own point. However, I may very well be wrong. I certainly don't expect Pochettino to be canvassing my opinion.
Nice, Mr. Nice. Even if we don't get Damiao, we will get another striker before 1 September. And Banega seems to be still happening. Unfortunately I'm guessing the Saint Davide thread will have to be revived for at least another 3 transfer windows before we finally bring him in.
It's an if, but if Wanyama plays to the level I have seen him capable of I'd expect Wanyama to start over Cork. Cork is very consistent but Wanyama is like a wrecking ball through midfield. Okay I have only watched him play 7-8 times, but his potential to turn defence into attack in an instant seems higher than that of Cork to me. Now consider this scenario, it's the 70th minute, Saints are 2-1 up, the 3rd official walks to the side-line with electronic board in hand, 30,000 Saints fans nervously peer towards the bench to see who we are bringing on to help see the game out. Never fear, a fresh Jack Cork springs onto the pitch full of running and tackles as a collective sigh of relief spreads around the ground. This is the kind of thing we have missed this season in a huge way.
Boruc Clyne New CB Lovren Shaw Schneiderlin Cork Rodriguez Wanyama New winger New striker/Lambert Wanyama, Schneiderlin and Cork rotate.
Last year we had quite a few threads asking who are the best three players across "the three" and the general consensus was that it varies depending on form, oppositioin, fitness, upcoming fixtures etc. I would hope that our signings this year will allow us to extend this to other parts of the pitch. It's time we stopped thinking about a "best eleven". Signing Wanyama gives us options and puts pressure on a number of positions which can only be a good thing.
