"I know that Cech is number one and he is a fantastic goalkeeper," he told Sky Sports News. "I want to try and push myself as much as possible. "I want to improve as a goalkeeper. There are a lot of games throughout the season and I'm sure if I do as well I know I can, I will get some opportunities."
Great pick up IMO. Cech is the undisputed no. 1, so someone young who would want to push for the starting spot, wouldn't be a good option. Signing on of the best Keepers in PL history (my opinion) whose really just hoping to play in the WC before he retires, is more than adequate cover for Cech. If/and/or/when Courtoius takes over for Cech, another talented youngish keeper to push for the starting job would be the best option as back up.
That's assuming he doesn't decide to leave before he takes over for Cech. I think Cech still has a few years at the top.
I think that is why they have loaned him out for another year, he will be happy as long as he is getting first team football in a high profile league. If he does leave some team is going to be very happy.
Great news! We will have the comfort of knowing Coutois is standing in the wings for another year, while we have more than ample coverage for Petr!
Cech was much better than Cudicini ever was. I just don't see Cech being dropped straight away to keep Courtouis happy. That's obviously a worst case scenario for Chelsea, best case scenario for everyone else. I think De Gea and Courtious will be battling it out for best keeper in the world in a few years. If they both stay at United and Chelsea respectively for a majority of their careers. We could see a really interesting and fun rivalry.
Very good piece of business, a really top keeper, bugger all money, and a great experienced pro to boot. Glad they listened to Blueman and I when we suggested Swartzy a few weeks back. Wesley Sjneider now please.
