Exactly. Turning right would make it a "right angle", so therefore to get back to where he started, he would have to walk in a square path.

I have to say I never really found that episode funny. Found it more annoying than anything.
 
I wouldn't draw any conclusions from that. He's not likely to get injured in a pre-season friendly and they probably think it's better for his fitness if he plays than if he doesn't. From their perspective they have to forget the transfer news and just try to get him fit for the start of the season (whether that turns out to be in Glasgow or not).
