Can someone please tell me what is meant by "a striker"? I'm desperately trying to identify the five "strikers" that Andy says Arsenal have (along with every other team in the league). Then there's Swansea: they've dispensed with Graham who I've heard described as a striker; does Michu count? And what about Liverpool? Do they really have ANY "strikers"? I gather Hooper is "a striker" (though I'm not sure), and since we are said to have two already, I imagine that may refer to RvW and Becchio. I also understand that Holty was a striker, but having 5 Holtys strikes (sorry) me as probably excessive. Is Pilkington " a striker", or Snoddy? I know that the 2 in teams that play 4:4:2 are said to be "strikers", and that the 1 in teams that play 4:2:3:1 is also said to be "the striker". But do teams playing 4:2:3:1 really need 5 of them? I really would like to know what I'm supposed to look out for when we are linked to this, that and the other player. <ok>

Podolski? Gervinho? If they are strikers, isn't Walcott also? Or if he is a wide midfielder, so is Podolski, etc. Was Pires a striker? Was Bergkamp a striker? If strikers are "forwards", isn't Pilkington a striker? What sort of sense do these traditional categories make in the modern game? <ok>

Surely you can have as many strikers as you want? We were operating on 3 at the end of last season. I greatly doubt there's a rule about it.

yes we usually we had 4 strikers last season plus some we could call back from loans we had jackson, holt, k kamera, becchio. could have called back last year if some got injured: James Vaughan, chris martin thats 6 strikers at least 4 for starting team so we need 2 more at least

just look at it on bbc website

How many of our goals in both seasons in the PL have been scored by strikers. Snodgrass, Pilks, Hoolahoops, Bassong and Turner all weighed in with a few.

The time to even start getting concerned is in 4 or 5 weeks time if no replacement strikers have appeared by then!!!!!

VI reporting Toby Alderweireld will travel to Norwich tomorrow for talks with the club.

From VI site..

With Norwich City is Ajax negotiations began about Toby Alderweireld, whose contract expires in mid-2014. The English club has also been reported in the Belgian center-back. This week will see Alderweireld with his father Vic and Sören Lerby agent or a possible transition to Norwich suits his ambitions.

Whilst this guy sounds fantastic, should we really be putting out a large outlay on another yet another central defender.

I was really looking forward to seeing the excellent Bennett develop alongside Bassong this season.

UNLESS he's trying to make the defence so good it doesn't need 4/5 of the team to do it.

Who am I kidding, will never happen.

Problem is carra, what's the majority of fans worst nightmare... A long term bassong injury! We need another top centre back.

But as you say, very unlikely to happen!! But you never know <ok>

Jeeez Carra, try and see the bright side!

With Holty gone we will almost certainly be seeing additions in the striker department. And one thing you cannot slate Hughton about is his transfers.

I am looking forward to seeing who its going to be! Come on Carra, cheer up!

It's very rare I will rave about a British player but I do think Bennett could be a truly fantastic defender for us.

I'd be gutted for him if he gets pushed to the back of the queue and misses out this season.

Given our scouts have clearly taken up residence in holland, which is hardly a bad thing if you ask me, we might need to see more of Cove to get info on these players.
