Modric is not a replacement for Scholes. Full stop! Modric works well for us because Harry has built our squad around him. To be fair to Moddy, he has never let us down, but we have had to sacrifice the goals that a more attack-minded CM would have brought to that role. For example, if we built the team around VDV, it would have a very different balance. If Modric is to get regular first-team action at United, SAF is going to have to build the team around him, and I cannot see that happening. He did it with Cantona, but Catana was a far more attack-minded player than Modric.
We actually beat Barca and United this season - how convenient that often gets ignored. We knocked Spurs out of a cup, finished higher than Spurs in the league and didn't get humiliated by anyone as they were against Madrid. Taking all that into account, how can any fair minded or sane person not agree that we are the better team? I appreciate that we like to have a dig at eachother, but let's try and stay within the realms of reality to some degree. Anyway, back to Modric. The reports aren't just coming from the Daily Mail, but from his own national press which give direct quotes from the player. However it pans out, this transfer season looks like it is going to be more exciting than the football was over the last year, unless it was your 1st time in the CL in which case I can imagine it was a quite special.
For me, the worst thing about agreeing to sell Modric would be the message that that would send to the other players. What are the likes of Bale, VDV, Sandro, etc, going to think about the clubs ambitions, if we freely agree to sell Modric to a Premiership rival??
Don't sell Modric unless we have a "better" player lined up to replace - we cannot let good players that we want go
You are correct on the results but if you take account of thebillions that got you those results compared to theresources that produced ours then we over-achieved and you under-achieved - that is why your manager got sacked and ours didn't Historically Spurs are a big club and Chelsea are the next step down - they have just had a good last 15 years - a short time on historical terms
and didn't get humiliated by anyone as they were against Madrid. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Are you havin a giraffe?. If you want to be taken seriously, stop saying you beat Barca, then "weren't humiliated"...6 days later you were!...not a shot remember. Also, Spurs v Madrid away, 10 men for an hour and a quarter, home leg, same ol thing didn't take our chances, but they were not better than us. I'm not saying anyones better than the other, just don't come here writing that crap.
Jesus wept. That comment came from an arsenal fan. You have had a mare there son!! I dont remember chelsea beating barca this year. Historically means very little. In the modern era i.e premier league and champions league chelsea are a far bigger club on the world stage than Spurs in the same way United are now bigger than Liverpool or is that they have just had a good 20 years?!?!?! I dont think Modric (or any player for that matter) would say coming to Chelsea was a step down...take your blinkers off.
I'm sick to death of United pinching our best players when they feel like it and Fergie secretly unsettling our players in his own scheming little way with the media. I actually feel so strongly about this and if we end up selling Modric ( Especially to United) i refuse to invest any sort of money in THFC ever again. Levy and Harry have promised us that we won't be selling Key players this season and they better not go back on their word. I am just fed up of improving Uniteds team every time we develop a class player. Were not Blackpool, were Tottenham Hotspur and were a big club. We might not be as huge as United but that's no shame because not many clubs are but we have ambition these days and should be looking to keep players like Modric. Arsenal managed it with Fabregas and i'm afraid thats the difference between us and our Noisy neighbours. Arsenal keep there best players most the time where as we sell To united!!!
Have to agree with last poster. I'm getting sick of it, we aren't a small club we were just in the CL ffs!! A boycott is in order if we sell Modders or Bale
Also, I'm sick of not only being dumped on by united on the pitch with ridiculous decisions but then bending over for them off the pitch as well!!?
Have to agree boys, I would be disgusted if we sell to Man U. I wouldnt blame Modric if he moved but I'd go insane if we bend over and take this one.
Allow me to go off angle for a minute but isn't this just the same speculation we have in transfer windows every bloody season? We're talking about loyalty etc but both parties on our side have iterated and reiterated the desire for Modders to stay. The window is just a few days old - worrying about things like this for the whole of the summer will give you a coronary!
Spot on mate!! Every season we bend over backwards for them and it don't help when the Ref helps them every single season but we always gift wrap United the 3 points with a cherry on top..... it's become a thing that happens every season. To make matters worse we then go improving there team every couple of years by giving into Bacon nose demands and handing them our best players. I am getting so fed up with Fergie getting his own way and unsettling our team. As previousely stated if we sell our key players this summer (especially to United ) THFC can **** off because i won't ever invest my money in them again
Correct. By selling to manutd or Chelsea the club are basically saying we will never catch up with them so what's the point, maybe 4th is the best we can ever hope for, IF we sell our best to those clubs. However if we don't then that sends a great message out to the rest that THFC is really trying to go places. We are sort of at a crossroads!!
I think Chelsea could be the real threat to stealing Modric. Once they get their new manager, I expect them to be overhauling their midfield. Essien isn't the engine he was, Lampard often looks tired(Bleakley's fault?), Mikel's useless and Ramires doesn't look much better. I'm still confident we won't sell anyone we don't want to this summer, however.
Outside of Man U this year there was very little to choose between 2nd and 6th place - we were above Chelsea and Man C this year and only finished 6 points behind Voldemort's lot
