On Modric, we need to tell him to give us one more year. If we do not make CL again then he can go anywhere he wants with our blessing. When he signed there was no CL football (more chance of Championship at the time) and so I am sure he can cope without it for one year.

Unfortunately, we are going to have to put up with a lot of this, right up until the transfer window closes. Be prepared to have every WUM and his dog on our tails, telling us who's going to buy who, and how little they are going to give us in return.

The one saving grace is that Gooners, this Summer, are going to get a taste of their own medicine, as it looks like quite a few of their player are growing increasingly frustrated with not only Whinger's failure to develop the club any further (taking it backwards, some would argue), but also in the tightness of their board. Both our clubs are at risk from both City and Chelsea, as those two go head-to-head to see who can out-spend the other in search of glory.

By the way, I think this "Modric to replace Scholes" nonsense has been dreamed up by the media, trying to create a story from nothing, rather than by United. Modric is not at all like Scholes, the latter having been more in the VDV mould, being as much a third striker and a midfielder. I would have thought that SAF would be more interested in buying a midfielder/forward who has more goals in him.

All summers produce rumours - why would he go to Utd and not get a guarantee even of a place - he is better at Spurs - next year we will be back in the Cl - Ars*n*l are there for the taking

If you look at that Barca team that decimated United and humiliated the Gooners, every single player on that field can score goals, and all 6 of their strikers and midfielders are expected to get at least 8 goals a season. If Fergie wants to get closer to Barca, he has to get in players who can score goals. As brilliant as Modric is, he will never be a goal-machine.

Have to disagree there. I think most of united's real creativity comes from Rooney or out wide. Therefore having Modric in the middle would give them a player in the centre who can carry the ball well and dictate play. scholes used to do that for United, Carrick has done so also for United but is clearly not good enough at the highest level. Modric seems like a decent signing and would walk into their midfield.

I think sneider would be first choice but i think he said he is staying with Inter. I think this story has legs.

One way or another Spurs normally bend over for United once the £££ are on the table and you couldn't blame Modric for wanting to go to a team in a better position to challenge for the top honours. You should keep him though if you can, top player.

I hate arsenal nearly as much as you lot but every year people say arsenal are there for the taking and they have consistently been in the top 4 for years. One of these seasons they wont bottle it in the final 10 games...surely.

And Modric would walk into that current United Midfield probably along side Fletcher and a.n other.

Winning is a habit...so is bottling! They need bigger changes then us to reach the next level. Do you think they were just 'unlucky' to fall apart in every competition?

Yes they fell apart in the league but they lost to barca and United in the other 2 main competitions, the two best sides in europe. Not normally one to defend them but they can win the league with one or 2 good signings where as i dont believe spurs can. Plus Liverpool will be better next year too, champs league will be as hard as ever to get in to.

Well Man City couldn't win the league with 15 good signings. Arsenal can sign whoever they want - their stumbling block is the lack of winning mentality, something instilled in ManU.

We might not have that either, but at least we have a bloody good go!

The most galling thing is there's talk of Modric being part of a £40m revamp of the squad - implying they could sign Modric, Rodwell, De Gea and Ashley Young for that combined total, which is utterly ludicrous given De Gea has a £17m price tag (and his agent has bluntly told MUPLC not to announce agreements when they haven't even met to discuss terms, much less a fee.)

The Grauniad's coverage of the CL final on Monday actually had a large chunk devoted to Modric, Rodwell and Young headed to the Theatre Of Schemes.

I know the match was one-sided, but that's no reason to link players contracted at other clubs when reporting on a f'n match!!!
