Really excited if the news is true , hopefully the missing link has been found

Swansea City look to have sealed their deal in their search for a striker - smashing the club record in a £10.2m swoop for Wilfried Bony.

WalesOnline reported how Swansea had lodged a big money bid for the Vitesse Arnhem in the last few days to try and land the frontman Michael Laudrup wanted.

And now reports in Holland have stated that a 12m Euro deal has been completed for the Eredivisie top scorer to head to the Liberty Stadium.

Arnhem newspaper de Gelderlander report they have had confirmation from the 24-year-old's agent over the move which will almost double the Swansea record for a transfer, set in the £5.55m swoop for Pablo Hernandez last August.

Swansea did not confirm the deal when contacted by WalesOnline but it seems set that the 6ft Ivory Coast ace is heading for South Wales following the incredible 31 goals from 30 appearances in the Dutch top flight last year.

    The story's gathering momentum

Swansea are set to seal the club record signing of Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony after fending off interest from Chelsea.

Bony has been subject of intense speculation surrounding his future in recent weeks, after enjoying another goal laden season in Holland, in which he scored 37 goals in 36 matches.

But despite substantial interest from Chelsea, as well as Newcastle, for his services, Swansea are set to pull off a major coup by landing the hitman for a club record £10.2million fee.

Bony’s European agent Francis Kacou confirmed the news to the Dutch press, revealing that his client has agreed a five-year-deal at the Liberty Stadium.

The move is seen as key in appeasing star manager Michael Laudrup, who had threatened to quit the club earlier this month after a row with owner Huw Jenkins over transfers.

However, Jenkins has now agreed to back his manager with big money, as the Swans prepare for a season in the Europa League after winning the Capital One Cup last term.

The arrival of 23-year-old Bony makes it two signings so far for Swansea, after they sealed a transfer for Jose Canas earlier this month.

Laudrup is still hopeful of adding further to his squad, while midfielder Jonathan de Guzman is in talks over extending his loan stay from Villarreal for another season.

Hopefully this will put paid to all the Debbie Downer comments on Jenkins not being prepard to spend. As Jo Royle said in an interview today regarding summer transfers " June is renowned for being a quiet month due to management and boards being away on holiday etc, it is from here on in that things will start happening for most clubs" . I am sure in the next couple of weeks there will be a few more signings to add to this one. KTF

If this deal has been sealed, then I for one will not question the boards ambition. Also great news if its a 5 year deal, showing that players are willing to commit beyond Laudrups contract, not to mention the possible sell on fee if he gets 15-20 goals next season.

Well nothing is confirmed yet <ok>

And of course we must remember that the stand off that has taken place may well have ruffled enough feathers to ensure that the funds were eventually unlocked <ok>

As Laudrup said himself, deals are being lined up from July to July not just in the month of may/june !! nothing might be finalised in those months but very often the hard work has been done previously, that's what your agents do, of course, until a medical has been done and the player is having pictures holding a Swans top nothing is completed!

Id be thrilled if we pull this deal off though, well done to the board and Laudrup :)

This is great news. Bony is without doubt the most talented of all the forwards rumoured to be on their way to Swansea this summer.

I have no enthusiasm for this guy.

As Cove has kindly pointed out, this guy is too slow and too cumbersome for our style of play. Add this to the fac that he has never truely been 100% fit suggests attitude issues, i.e. he can't be arsed.

    He's not for us.

Just found this quote from Bony

"The clubs are now talking to each other, Swansea has made Vitesse a bid and I hope it's good," Bony told Voetbal International.

"Swansea is a wonderful club. It's my chance to play in the Premier League and they also play attractive football.

"I understood from my agent that Swansea want to pay €12 million for me and that is what Vitesse want to receive, so I hope there is some good news soon."

    Oh dear.

    Sounds like Jason Scotland...<laugh>

Cant be arsed but scores loads of goals..from what ive seen on you tube he looks like he has a good first touch and can shoot from distance as well as have the knack of being in the right place at the right time, has a few tricks and doesn't take forever to steady himself before attempting a shot on goal like DG !! The dutch league can be a little tricky in terms of identifying real scoring talent but that could well be because UK teams don't play the same style as over there, we are very close to how they play the game in Holland so I would expect that he could fit in quite well if he signed.

His pace doesn't seem that bad to me at all, looks quicker than DG and Michu, again we go back to what you can expect for your money In the current market, if he had the pace of a grey hound to go along with his quite obvious strength then we would be looking at £15m and up!!
