Not advocating huge wagers on this but SURROUND SOUND 14-1 5.30 Newcastle really is interesting dropped back in distance. Still a big baby, he is a shocking puller but if they get him to settle he will improve in leaps and bounds. Back to a more suitable trip tomorrow and I wonder if they may let him do his running from the front. Whatever the tactics he is a very sporting each way bet at 14's.

    Punting pants

    15.30 Newcastle

Big Time Billy 13/8 - I missed the 15/8 but this current price is still good enough to have pop at.

Once more into the breach Pilgrims. Once more into the breach.

I think there may be a little value at Warwick tomorrow if anyone fancies an each way bet.

    Warwick
    3.40 Califante 28-1 (betvictor
    )
This horse ran well for a long way at Royal Ascot last week. Although it should not win tomorrow that performance together with dropping back a furlong makes 28-1 look about double what it should be and in my book worth a decent each way bet.

Morning all. I'm going to give Galician another go in the 2-30 at Newcastle. He was beaten by a neck by york Glory in April and if he reproduces that should have a great chance. Hasn't run so well since but I'm happy to give him another chance today.

I'd say Big Time Billy is now too short at 5/4. Don't bother if that's the only price you can get pilgrims

Old boy Peter Bowen is operating at a tremendous strike rate at the moment. 34% over jumps for 2013/14 and 33% for 2013 (albeit from a small sample) on the level. Recent form is even better with a whopping 10 of his last 19 runners obliging. That is form so hot it sizzles! Plus, it may be worth noting that on Tuesday night he bought the winner of Newton Abbot’s ‘selling hurdle’ – Green Lightning. It will be fascinating to see if he manages to improve the 6YO.

Why we need 5 Flat fixtures today (and 6 tomorrow for heaven’s sake) is beyond me and therefore I’m waving the ‘no bet’ banner today. I love the look of the 5.20 at Yarmouth though. Possibly the most one sided contest since Mr Cameron took on some chap called Brown back in 2010!

Good luck all and fingers crossed that the Lieutenant makes into Saturday's 'Richard Pitman's Derby'. We will find out shortly...

The Lieutenant has missed the cut by 1! Bally 1. As a result he's 'first reserve'.

Logic tells me that anyone on at 14's should now be laying it off.
It will be very interesting to see what tactics they employ today because he really is a strong puller
I would let him go from the front as he could be a stone better if allowed to lead.

Off topic i know but just looking at the prices for the lions series. I don't like to be unpatrotic but the 13/8 on Saturday for Australia and the 9/2 for them to win outright are very big. I might tell an Aussie mate to have a bet and then they can treat me to dinner if they win <whistle>

Dan, that horse has given me the run around like no other-It has considerable ability but appears to be completely uncoaxable with regard if he fancies putting it in or not on the day. I have seen him run as if a listed class horse and also as if a class 5 handicapper. I have decided to give him a permanent swerve but will cheer him on for you today.

my selection Califante is sadly now a non runner.
