The stats I'm using have Rodriguez at 5 assists and Ramirez at 3 so I'll use that - that makes 0.14 assists a game, 0.17 goals a game, so erm, not exactly loads better than Ramirez' 0.12 assists and 0.19 goals? Both are poor records, but how can you make an exception for one based on being in an unfamiliar position, but not make an exception for the other based on being younger, injury prone and settling into an entirely different country?
And Gaston was playing in an unfamiliar country and had injuries and had personal problems. Yet you ignore this despite that these are bigger issues than playing in an unfamiliar position.
You're stats are wrong. Lambert 8 assists, Rodriguez 8 assists, Puncheon 6 assists, Lallana 5, Ramirez 4. Both aren't poor records. Ramirez had an ok season. You think 5 goals, 4 assists is poor from 20 starts? It's alright. Rodriguez has 3 assists that aren't credited on who scored.com but are on some other sites. 1 was for winning the penalty against Villa in the 1-0 win. One was a shot leading to a rebound for Ramirez against QPR. Can't remember the other one right now. Can't remember Ramirez' 4th either but they both happened.
Can somebody tell me what the "right stats" are? And who decides those are right over somebody else's stats?
That's why I preferred whoscored's stats. I find it very hard to give credit for assists like Rodriguez' penalty win.
But it was Rickie who did the hard part. All Rodriguez did was fall over an imaginary leg. That is not an assist in my book.
It was a disgrace, I can't give someone credit as a better player because the ref was too blind to spot a horrendously obvious dive.
He has had a season to adapt now. Can you say with conviction as the season went on he was improving and adapting? I think his injuries and personal problems were before the new year? The main injury certainly was. Maybe he'll get better next season. I hope he will but I don't think he will which is why I'd sell him with a decent offer. If you think he will have a good season it makes sense that you wouldn't want to sell him unless it was a lot more. I think he will perform to a similar standard. I was hoping he'd score last night and get some confidence as I would be very surprised if we sold him.
They do in South America. Pushing the rules and getting away with things is seen as a legitimate tactic there (Hence Luis Suarez, Diego Maradona, Neymar et al), and an important skill for a player to possess. The current Barcelona team have also learned this attitude (hence we have Busquets). Same language, different accents...
Drogba took a long time to adapt to the PL. He went one to be one of the best centre forwards I've ever seen.
An assist is an assist on a penalty win. It doesn't matter how you were fouled. We aren't arguing about who is the better player here. We never were at any point. As for it being a disgrace. You need to calm down. He went to the ground to avoid contact as a natural reaction. He didn't even appeal so how is it a disgrace? Cork did something similar against Stoke and N'Zonzi got a red. I knew it. Ramirez' 4th assist is for winning the penalty against Fulham where their player deliberately hand balled it. That's an assist too and I'm not willing to hear your rubbish that that isn't an assist either because his corner forced the handball.
my point is you allow some mitigation for JayRod, but ignore the fact a 22 year old man has moved to a foreign country, suffered a career threatening injury and had a close family berievement not to be considered in mitigation. If you can't see my point, you can't be very bright.
I already acknowledged this in another post. If you'd quoted the whole thing it would have been clearer that you were making a general point. From what you bolded it appeared you were talking about his position smart arse.
Well not really. It was perfectly clear that he meant Gaston also had problems - it just took someone with a little common sense to work out what he meant.
Blimey, are we doing name-calling now? Right - to conclude this and ALL the Gaston discussions - Nobody is sure if Gaston will eventually live up to his potential. It's too soon to discard him after one season. We'll be in a better position to make some kind of judgement at the end of this season. NOW CAN WE MOVE ON?
