It is valid. You said a striker needed pace. I'm saying they don't.

They do if they are playing the non holding role in a traditional front 2. Big man = slow, little man = quick. Or would you prefer to play 2 slow as **** players up front, with zero impact? So, it's still not valid.

Yes that is obviously what I would prefer. I bow to your patronising wisdom.

Too simplistic an argument. Shearer's strength was, herm??? his strength. He won the space, not the ball (although he could that too). He could take a snapshot opportunity and he could create them. He had better (short distance - granted) pace than some give him credit for, but give him a 50:50 ball and see him shine. And I can't stand the bloke, he's full of his own ****e.

Back in from a few sherbets and lots of talk about Cattermole in the local bars; have it on very good terms that it is a serious prospect - great defensive midfielder, but reports sick more than the Dead Sea! It would suit him because he likes to be within smell of the smog, but . . .

Firstly well done for returning to the prem.

Billy sharp is actually not a bad striker yeah he is slow but he is not bad finding the goal. as a southampton fan i would have liked to see billy sharp have a chance in the premier league.

    stats
    App 310
    Goals 141

I no they were from the lower leagues but stats don't lie. I hope he does well where ever he ends up.

For that price we should get him and quick. Good replacement for IF or when Fryatt leaves us. But no harm in carrying extra firepower in the PL at all.

The point about the post was that Austin and Hooper are both untried at PL level but have a very similar goals per game record to Billy Sharp in the Championship yet are valued at 4 or 5 times Sharp's alleged asking price.

Plus if we were to drop down to the Championship, which a few people apparently have forgotten exists, he'd have the firepower to get us competing again. I'd rather have him in the squad than out of it; if ALF, Holt and Lambert can score goals at the highest level, why couldn't Sharp, or for that matter Fryatt?

Very true. Saints have fixed the price on Billy Sharp to just that. £1.2m so its peanuts for the PL. IF we had firepower containing Hooper - Austin - Sharp - Fryatt - Proschwitz with Aluko - Boyd and Koren not far behind then PL safety would be assured. It would more than pay for itself by seasons end imo.

Yes it can happen but looking at some other clubs i very much doubt it. Not many out of Hull - nevermind in Hull really understand or realise just how good a squad we already do have.
