Yeah, I'm not sure there is any other realistic target that could fit better into our system

Oh, and he seems to have the stamina of a marathon runner, which is perhaps fitting given that he would become the first Kenyan in the Prem.

Wanayama is too good to do what Cork did and in that sense he won't fit into our previous style. He will go forward, create and score goals which might leave us more exposed but you can't play 2 defensive midfielders without significantly comprimising the attack. We will be a massively improved side with Wanayama. I can see our wingers benefiting from having some more attacking impetus, and Davis's defensive attacking midfield role may also be less of a ******ant if we can occasionaly bypass him.

I wonder how much better schneiderlin will be next season if he has wanayama alongside him. I'm not expecting him to be worse off but Cork knew exactly when and where to cover which may mean Schneiderlin will have to sit and not move into goal scoring positions anymore. Of course they can always interchange. Although it looks to me like wanayama might be better offensively.

For alot of games maybe, for difficult or away games I think its more Davis that will lose his spot. A holding player like Cork will allow Morgan and Victor the freedom to roam forward, especially if speculation was true that there was a posability of play with 3 CBs. I can not think of when we have had a player(if he signs) that is such an allround midfielder as Victor, maybe Jimmy case or even Glenn Cockerill , but Victor is more dangerous infront of goal than both and a much better tackler than Glenn

Even with the potential of Wanyama, should he sign for Saints, there is plenty of room in the line-up for places. What is needed is more competition. Given Wanyama's seeming versatility, it would appear that any of the midfield positions could be covered if the need arose. Last season, the problem was of insufficient quality in the side when injuries and/or suspensions occurred and sufficient quality overall. In one full swoop, Wanyama adds to the competition and raises the bar for the others. It also means that Saints can look to competing in Europe in a couple of seasons, should things go to plan, with an already strengthened squad that will need less additions than if little or nothing was done now.

In short, Saints are just getting enough quality in to make the leap up the table. I'm sure there will be one or more additional signings to come, well before the season gets underway.

Poor old Jack. He has a cracking season & the fans can't wait to replace him. Well. I suppose that's modern day football for you.

I'd much rather have Wanyama than Niangolan. Surely a far better prospect?

He'll be relishing the competition, I'm sure. Everyone has to up their game ... Morgan will also know that if he doesn't continue to perform he'll be dropped. We need three quality players for those two spots, it's obvious.

Removing Jack will make us more vulnerable. I think Adam is in more danger.

I see Adam's future for us as a squad player, playing anywhere across "the three".

Agreed. But the fans don't pick the team. Jack Cork's partnership with Schneiderlin hasn't been broken up yet, except in the minds of some of the tactical geniuses in the stands.

Have only seen him on TV....Not enough to make an serious observation probably. When he is given room he seems to be good yes..........I will have to hold my full judgement until I have seen him closely marked or at worst closed down quickly.

Should we all pretend he's literally the best player in the world? People get far too sentimental.

You realise that, much like Cork, the best part of his game comes off the ball, not on it? It's not really a matter of "given room" - and seeing as he dominated Barcelona, I'm confident that he doesn't need SPL standard opposition to be good. I'm really not sure you know much about him Beddy.

Why have you the impression that I think he won't fit in? It is a genuine question. As I have previously said I have only seen him play on Tv. I didn't particularly take too much notice of him as an individual so do not know too much about him. Also when I saw him he did not particularly jump out at me. I think judging by some of the posters previously they seem to have a far greater personal knowledge of him. Either that or they are looking through particularly bright rose coloured specs.

Edited post.....It was not the Barcelona game either. One good strike does not a good player make. So my judgement will be reserved. If others say he is the new creator then so be it......

I`ve seen Wanyama three times, and while he is a good player, it remains to be seen how good he would be against better opposition every week. I don`t necessarily think he would be a direct replacement for Cork - in fact there are aspects to Cork`s game I think are just as good (keeping possession for example), and aspects that are better (quick feet), in my opinion.

He's not here to replace Cork; he's here to be part of an ever improving squad. Have some of us forgotten our friend Mr Adkins' words saying it is about the squad, not the 11. We MUST improve the squad and that will include players competing with our existing heroes. Anyone not wanting this to happen has not the same ambition as the club now. We can't keep the same squad as its not good enough and if you stand still, you end up going backwards. Cork will be fine. He may end up playing less games; he may end up forming a frightening partnership with Victor and Morgan missing out... We just don't know. I am sure though that no-one is writing cork off yet. There is nothing wrong about airflow excitement about a potential new signing.
