I hope they are. If we keep Bale and pick up Damnyou, they can squabble all they want, as far as I'm concerned. Lots of people, sometimes including me, bemoan the commercial aspect of the game. It's never made much sense to me, when we don't begrudge other entertainers their money. If there are 8 billion people in the world, there are probably around 2 billion sports fans, many of whom spend money on the teams they like. Football is the most popular game. So let's say there are a billion football fans, or even half a billion. How many shirts do they buy? How many pay for some sort of football media coverage? 80 million pounds for one of the best three or five players in the world strikes me as a bargain. The real surprise is that movie stars, who only make a movie or two a year, make scads of cash, not that Tiger Woods pocketed 100 million last year as the biggest idol of millions of golfers with money to burn.
