Regardless of this he remains a very good centre-back and one with excellent sell-on potential given his age. The Daily Mail reported that Lyon would probably want around £12 million given their financial predicament but a deal worth £6.8m has been struck and will probably represent one of the bargains of the summer. It is a slight gamble given his form and discipline problems but ultimately football is a gamble and in my opinion Lovren will strengthen Southampton enormously.

I am always dubious with playing a Predominantly right footed player on the left side of a centre back partnership so it will be interesting which side Pochettino plays him.

Would be happy to start the season with a back 4 of Clyne, Yoshi, Lovren and Shaw. All liable to make the odd mistake but will give 100% as well. Added depth would be nice but a few youngsters could and maybe should get a few games.
