Yeah, if he can still play brilliantly with a Balotelli-type lifestyle he could be incredible if he sorted himself out. The bit from the article that talks about the February incident suggests people were disappointed but not surprised. I get the impression he's sorted himself out a bit this year and that was a slight setback. If we DID sign him I think Pochettino's training methods would help (which ex-player of his was it who said Poch "works you like a dog"?) and guys like Schneiderlin and Puncheon could also be a positive influence.

NC is in the Netherlands. Chelsea and ManU believed to be interested in a Vitesse midfielder...Marco van Ginkel. 1 +1 = 101. QED

Some people on here are worried about Banega playing where Schneiderlin or Cork play. He plays at CAM for Valencia and Argentina, just behind Soldado and Messi respectively. Only problem them would be where Gaston would play, but I think he'd be better on the right wing, cutting inside on his left foot. He played there against Fulham away and was great, even in "the cold and rain". Benefitted Lallana when he got moved out onto the left so he could find more space on the left and cut inside, so why not Gaston?

    An attack of

    -----Cork-----Morgan----
    Ramirez-----------Lallana
    ---------Banega---------
    --------Rickie/Jay--------

That would be mouth watering. Can't say I'm expecting it to happen though. And I still think Gastons best position is CAM.

we've got so many players who don't really fit out wide and look better when placed with/behind Lambert (when he's not gone deep) and even Davis looked more convincing in an advanced role. Of course he'd be an improvement but it seems we're acucmulating players that go in the same hole meaning others just have to fit in somewhere else or get the bench.

edit: messi is behind the strikers from what I can see on a cursory gooogle search (yay).... if banega is behind him, not sure how that makes the schneiderlin/cork thing less relevant.

Recently they've played Messi in the false nine role he plays for Barcelona, with Banega used like Xavi and iniesta to try and get the best out of Lionel. That also should show how highly rated he is that he is seen as vital to Argentina.

yeah we definitely need some proper wide players, lallana and puncheon are good at times but we could do much better. Banega would be a top signing but he isn't as necessary as a right back, or a winger. I would rather spend big money on 2 wingers than sign banega. EVen though banega would be our best player having two very good wingers would add much more to the way we play. Plus we have Ramirez already

    ----Morgan-----Banega----
    Ramirez-------------Bueno/JayRod
    ---------Banega-----------
    --------JayRod/Rickie------

That's a pretty good front six!

Gaston on the right is an experiment worth trying (basically a straight swap for Jason), but Jason, Adam, and Gaston are very one paced. Someone quicker who can keep up with Jay Rod would be nice if we go this route.

Umm why a rb? We have Clyne and Chambers as back up.

    uuuuu. Triple post.

damn I forgot Chambers had been converted to RB. Removes one option for a winger. Not that I have any idea what his pace is like.

especially if we can sign banega twice.

Not a fan of Jay rod out on the left. He's fine drifting there from centre but vice versa seemed not to work.

DTLW has your source hinted at Banega or have you only read things on the net? You seem to be the man snooping around for us!

I agree. I think Cork is excellent there too, and he might not be as much of a regular in central midfield next season so that could work out nicely. I'd be wary about morale if we signed another RB, as he'd surely expect games and I don't think Clyne is getting dropped any time soon. Clyne, Chambers and Cork (and Lovren/Maya if necessary) is good enough for me.

I think we only need the one winger. If Adam can keep himself fit next season I think he'll have a much improved season. We all know he's got quality, he just didn't really show it consistently last season. He definitely deserves another chance out there.

Meant to put Bueno wide right and Lallana left, Jay Rod up top!
