But Banega is better than Morgan (can't believe I'm saying that ). A CM pairing of Morgan and Banega would be mouth watering.

Could be. but we already have a lot of samey and not particularly prolific players. In one sense that's an advantage, interchangeability, but i feel we get predictable. The old WGS observation of propaganda football.

If we're going to replace someone it's certainly going to be Cork rather than Morgan and it would be good to get someon with something different like a goal threat.

For 9m, I don't care if he tries to cook Clyne's liver with fava beans in the middle of a match.

Crook said our budget is £30m didn't he.

If this were to come off, 11m (if 8+2 is right for lovren) left to add some variation up front.

or is that 9m in euros... gotta go back and check now.

ok, 12m odd left.

Aside from the nutter bit, isn't that what morgan has been doing?

more urgently i'd like someone in midfield to be confident and dangerous in front of goal. From open play, specifically.

He'll be the one setting a hell of a lot of goals up. I watch spanish football a lot and he would be by far our best player. Still don't want to get my hopes up as it will take a lot of convincing to get a player as good as him here.

I think it will be more around the 40m mark.

If that's the difference in putting through Jay, Adam and Gaston in front of goal more often rather than always making space and opportunities for others, kushty.

It would be around £14m remaining, plus at least £5m for outgoing players, I would imagine. Sharp, Fox, Hammond, de Ridder, Chaplow and potentially one of our CBs and Guly might not bring in much apiece, but collectively they'll add a little to the transfer budget.

tough to get shot of players permanently until the contract is over. many of them might be loans. perhaps a better chance of selling guly as he'd probably be more likely to get european interest.

Did Hammond impress at brighton?

Depends how we calculate the budget. Looking at compiled reports, the standard seems to be £6.9m potentially rising to around £9m based on conditions. Do we count that as £6.9m off the budget or £9m?

I always count the total exposure including clauses hence i allocated 10 in for Lovren.
€9m is just over 7.5 so 12.4ish left.

If the source for the 30m budget is known to be unrealiable then it's ane xercise in futility, but I think most of us would be surprised if it was far off that.

As I said I think it will be more 40m then 30m, the guy that told me about how much the season ticket prices were going up told me this.

colour me pleasantly surprised. I'd have built in a tolerance of 5m each way.

Room for three really substantial signings in that then.

I'm a fan of Fonte and think he could do a good job for us if he had to, but I do feel we need better defenders than either him or Jos if we really intend to progress. Southampton is growing and these things happen whether we like it or not.
