It's not just Cork. IMO if we really are to progress and become a top 8 team, then the likes of Fonte, Puncheon, Lallana and Lambert all need to see less playing time too (in favour of better players).

That's not to say I don't rate them, or I want us to sell them. Not at all. But they're not top 8 quality IMO. So for me, they take the roles that the likes of Fox, Guly and De Ridder took this season.
 
I remain very cautious about both of those players. I think Lovren will be a great defender, but I'm not sure when. Last season wasn't great for him. I have no clue whether Bueno will ever be good, and the price is pretty high.
 
I'm not against improving the centre of midfield at all but for me it's not a priority because that's one of the areas where we're strongest. We already have starters who are unquestionably very good Premier League players, decent cover in Davis and an improving youngster in JWP. If it's a straight choice (and yes, I know it's not), I'd rather have a centre back, a winger and another striker ahead of a central midfielder.

I know you wrote, the likes of, so I expect that not to be a comprehensive list. However, I think Puncheon might have even more in him. I always get the impression that he's playing well within himself and could regularly play at a better level. At the moment he is inconsistent in showing the signs of this higher level but I think its there.

If you'd have asked me this only one season I would have said no, but not now. He can be capable of outstanding play and he's absolutely a potential game changer or match winner.
 
Hope its not Lovren. We would just get Hooiveld in disguise. Fitter, stronger, faster - sure, but a Hooveld nontheless.

You aren't aware how much people here in Croatia mock Lovren. In France, also. He's a liability.
