I think it may be a case of Jose has been given a war chest and a list rather than a free reign over who he signs. It seems to me that most clubs appoint someone other than the manager these days to buy new talent in.
Jose certainly has a say but lets not be in any doubt here Roman has the final say when it comes too signings.
He honestly doesn't. Roman pretty much signs the cheques. There has been the odd player Roman has gone after I.e Sheva but the process is largely down to Emanelo and Jose.
I hope you're right. I wouldn't trust Roman to buy again. He makes the money lets keep him doing thy and let the footy people do what they're good at. Division of labour has always been a good idea and in place for a reason!
Roman's influence is exaggerated hugely, largely a media myth. Ranieri, Ancelotti and Wilkins (I think Jose too but don't quote me on that) have all said they were in charge of transfers and Roman just signed the cheque (Tenenbaum really). Why would they lie? AVB personally desired Meireles and Romeu and he got them.
Reports today say Cavani's mum says it's between City and Madrid and his father says he wants to go to Madrid. Perhaps we've pulled out as they wont take a player in exchange? Still think we are a top draw striker short of competing for the title, that may be Lukaku but a lot to put on his young shoulders. Just wondering how Madrid can afford Cavani, Bale and Suarez?!?!?
Well how about we sign Lewandowski, then go nab Ronaldo just for fun. Madrid would sign Bale, Suarez and Cavani robbing Spurs, Liverpool and City of top players and we would have already dented United with our two captures. No, would settle for Lewandowski, Van Ginkel, Mangala and Shaw for about 65m outlay
Jose seemed fond of Rooney. If Lewandowski goes to United then I think we'll go in for Rooney. There aren't many viable options at the moment.
Nah, Arsenal had/have no ambition. I was told 2 weeks before that RVP had signed for Man U so wasn't a surprise. United aren't going to sell one of their most marketable players to us and hand us the initiative. I feel we are doomed and will have to look elsewhere.
I know what you mean but my point is that if they sign Lewandowski they're not going to be as bothered IMO. United would sooner sell to us than have a 250k p/w unhappy player sitting on their bench!
I just don't think they'd be as myopic as Arsenal were with RVP. Imagine if they sold Rooney to us and it won us the title. If I were Gourlay I'd pay Dortmund the €30m and even pay Bayern €10m to annul the agreement. Lewandowski is worth it. If we don't sign a top striker we can't finish any higher than 3rd and it puts us out the run in for the CL immediately.
What is all this nonsense about an agreement between Bayern and Lewandowski Surely if this has happened and Dortmund have not accepted a bid or allowed Lewandowski to speak to Bayern then this is tapping up a player?
