Yes. If football was a computer game he would've seen "Level 1: Portugal. Completed" infront of his eyes after that season. He made the same career move as Mourinho as he avoided having to oversee the stripping of assets that inevitably follows a successful season and at a weaker European league, the only difference is that Abramovich's promise of allowing him to spend big and build a new team was only true in Mourinho's case. Anyway, in France they seem to think he's turned PSG down now.
I've been heavily engaged in some business affairs, so I've not had much time for frivolities. Plus, it's the off-season, so I don't really feel the need to impart my usual pearls of footballing wisdom that you lads find so informative and fascinating. Yes, that's quite a lot of unusual events, most of which most sensible fans never expected to happen. It all goes to prove that anything really can happen in football. Moyes is United's manager, but for how long? I suspect most of us would anticipate a short tenure, dependent only upon how quickly things go tits-up and to what extent. The real question is, who will be his replacement? There are only a few people that have the kind of gravitas to deliver certainty at this level. Which brings me on to The Happy One... The sensible money was on him being the next United manager, and I wasn't the only one "predicting" that eventuality. I still believe he will be United manager one day - provided, of course, that he can replicate with CFC the kind of success that he brought first time round. The irony is that the more successful Mourhino is (especially when compared to how badly most of us expect Moyes to perform), the more desperate United will be to "get their man" increasing the likelihood that he'll end up there. Perhaps Mourhino didn't want to go to United whilst SAF still has a strong presence at the club? Who knows? Time will reveal all. The Spurs juggernaut ran out of petrol due to Levy's perennial reluctance to invest money in a decent striker. We lacked goals due to the fact that we have two of the ****iest strikers ever to disgrace a football field. Hopefully, they will both be gone this Summer, and we'll have a couple of world-beaters at the club. Even so, AVB still managed to deliver for us our highest points-total in the EPL, which in former seasons would have been sufficient for at least 4th spot. If we keep Bale (which I believe we will) and bring in the two or three extra players we need, I believe we can only get better, and certainly remain competitive for 4th. Yes, Real do want Bale - very well observed of you. However, I'm sure that you will appreciate that there is a gulf between "wanting" and "getting." If Bale does go, either this season or next, it will be for a very substantial sum of money that, whilst it will not necessarily buy us another player of Bale's quality, will enable us to purchase three or four players that are very close to his quality, in all positions across the park, strengthening, not weakening our squad. So, overall, even if Bale did leave (which I do not believe he will, this season), it really doesn't worry me As regards AVB, you will probably have seen the news paper report stating that AVB, himself, has told PSG to sling their hook. The important thing, though, is that I am back, and looking forward to making more "predictions" before and during the coming new season, and to engaging you lads in the kind of wide-ranging and intellectual discussions that have formed the hallmark of our varied debates.

It had little to do with money spent. The difference between AVB and Mourinho was that Mourinho had just won the Champions League and inherited a dressing room that had won nothing together, his man management and people skills were second to none, and he was charismatic and able to deal with the media. AVB was the complete opposite, he inherited a group that had won far more than him and had poor man management skills and wasn't media savvy so he was always on a hiding to nothing. The players undermined him, IMO, but he didn't help himself. He wasn't ready and should have spent longer in Portugal to develop his managerial skills before coming to England.
