Villa have signed Jores Okore from Nordsjaelland, he's really really impressed me when I've seen him, could be a cracking signing.

One player I'd love to see at Saints but I'd doubt we'd get him is Andreas Cornelius from Copenhagen. 20 year old striker, 6 foot 4... Going to be a very good player.

I highly doubt Michu was unknown, in fact I would be shocked if every Premier League team hadn't heard of him/scouted him due to his performances in La Liga the previous season. It was just Swansea (and others if you believe media reports at the time, including us) who decided to pull the trigger and sign him.

Are you just being picky? I think the gist if what I was sayin was obvious...

I haven't seen anything of him and I appreciate he's been playing in a weaker league, but a goal every 3 games for a 20 year old wide player seems pretty good to me.

I do wonder how many people on here have actually seen him (and a decent amount of him, at that), to be honest.

I appear to be like you. I'd never even heard of Bueno, let alone seen him. So I can't comment on his value nor his ability at all. But if Cortese and the recruitment team want to spend that money on him, then (at least right now) that is fine by me.

So the fact that you, and a majority of people on here who are well knowledged in football haven't even heard of him, and journalists/"bloggers" who have watched him are completely unconvinced, and that he's not picking up any particularly rave reviews, and that he's only a bit part player for the Uruguay U20 team doesn't make you even slightly concerned or uneasy for the money involved? I get trusting the recruitment team is important and we all have to do it because they know more than us, but come on, there's a limit where you're allowed to feel reasonably uneasy.

I'm probably being thick, but is the general gist to sign a player for not much money who has an immediate impact?

The gist was to go and find the not so expensive ones who have a good impact (though no-one can control that) and are less well known. For example, Michu, despite his good season in La Liga, was not as well known as say a £20m player.

Agreed. But for me, that limit is not £8m. Especially not given the new SKY deal.

I have comfortably enough faith in Cortese that if he is willing to sanction this signing, roughly for that amount, then the only thing running through my mind is 'I look forward to seeing this new guy next season. Don't know anything about him'.

But any way, my point was more about people forming any sort of opinion on this guy's ability, based potentially on very little (or, no) first hand knowledge of him. I've got no problem with people feeling uneasy at £8m being spent on someone who they have never heard of before (even though I'm not uneasy), but I do have a bit of an issue with anyone basically saying that he's not worth it. Do those people REALLY know that he's not worth it? In 18 months time, it could be an exceptionally well spent £8m.

This is sort of my point aswell about Michu being well known. With modern day technology I think finding a virtually unknown player for a small fee who is going to be good enough for the Premiership straight away is impossible. It all comes down to which club decides to follow through with the signing. So it leaves you in a position where you sign say 5 of these players and hope they work out, or you pay the fee for one more established player who has already proven his ability over a few years in a good league.

Michu was cheap because Rayo were struggling financially. He was pretty well-known in Spain even before he joined Rayo. A player's value depends far less on his reputation than it does on his club's financial standing.
