Blood spatter! looks like he's been skinned and all his internal organs are on show, could even be a medical tuition dummy!

Maybe it's their tribute to Hearts, seeing as they look like they're right in the ****? Villa are a bit Scottish, after all.
 
I actually like most of those kits in the link!

I had the away villa one when I was a kid. I used to collect random premier league kits, despite being a spurs fan.

other classics in my collection included:

Newcastle's "brown ale" kit with the buttons
United's "laced collar" sharp kit,
The republic of Ireland "Opel" 94 USA away kit with the green stripes
Liverpool's green away "Candy" strip
Everton's Home "NEC" kit
and Lots of Swindon kits
