I don't think your buys are wholly or partially wrong and i did say that we were a selling club as we can not afford to spend the same level of money as some clubs without risking becoming another Leeds.
Like i said i ain't complaining cos we in turn can spend more than other teams...clubs have to sell to bigger and richer clubs...as we ain't the biggest or richest by a long shot we are and will continue to be a selling club.

I think AVB will stay, he's learnt his lesson about big spending clubs and players that are bigger than him...Spurs is perfect for him to establish himself in a better league than Portugal, they look to be competitive each season, have a decent squad and he gets backed by the chairman.

If this sort of offer comes around in two years time I think he'd take it if they hadn't managed to secure regular CL football.

So in that case he'll be gone in two years<laugh>

City don't have to sell their best players, nor do Chelsea.

Like all teams, if they want to go you have to sell them,as you kept telling us when you wanted Modric, and the sour grapes when Levy would'nt sell him to you!

When was the last time we sold a player that we really didn't want to go?

Wilkins? spackman? Speedie? Le Saux? Maybe Robben?

Hardly sour grapes is it, he sells anything that can turn a buck. I should think his wife and kids are worried by this as they might go down the road too!<laugh>

Different situation, we're talking about players in their prime.

A lot (myself included), were happy to see Drogba go out on a high in the manner he did, and felt an extra season would have tainted his legacy. The reality is Drogba hasn't been a 20-30 goal a season striker since the Malaria outbreak in 2010/11.

    Exactly.

The only player we've sold under the Roman era (in the manner being discussed) is Robben - and even then he had struggled the previous season and had injuries constantly that made the sale more justified.

Not the same as a Spurs selling the likes of Carrick, Berb and Modric in the last few seasons. Each time they were the best and stand out player. Bale is only a matter of time too.

We are not as rich as you. In other news the sky is blue and the sea is green. We have to live in the real world, not cause we're not ambitious, but because sometimes you need to cash in on assets that will lose value if held too long. It's more about how wisely the funds are reinvested.

Keeping your best players is reliant on 3 factors:

    - Ability to pay top wages
    - Ability to win top trophies
    - Champions League Football

If you can offer a player all 3 of the above and are a city-based club (ideally London) there is no chance they will leave you unless for Real or Barca, or sentimental reasons ala Collocini/Tevez.

And without the resources to pay top wages, winning trophies and gaining CL qualification is more difficult. Had we qualified for CL in the early days when resource wise we were on a level with Arsenal, then we may have had their level of success. It's pretty difficult overtaking them now, let alone the super rich above them, as the differential becomes self perpetuating.

I'm not criticising your club or your ambition. It's difficult, near impossible especially if Arsenal get their act together. Sky/UEFA have created an Oligopoly.

Or being a big club like Liverpool, with great history, who manage to attract and keep big players longer than a club like Spurs would.
Spurs don't have that history or aura
