Let's be honest, it isn't the kind of signing we had hoped for however he is a better prospect than Gray and Forssell were.

If he is a squad player fighting for a place fine, only a two year contract, not sure what to make of that, if he bags 25 goals we will have one season left and his agent will have his head filled with lucrative contract ideas.

Can't say I am unhappy with the signing, can't say I am excited either, wind-ups aside, we have signed a striker who couldn't make a L1 teams starting line-up too often however he is only 24 and at 6' 6" he will be a right handful in the air assuming we can get the crosses in..

Good summary, Ristac. I'm inclined to agree. Might be an unknown quantity, but at least he's a young unknown quantity, unlike previous years. It is genuine progress, but hardly of the leaps & bounds variety.

Let you know a secret when Souness became manager of Rangers I went to see him in his flat in Mallorca I told him to buy David Hirst from Barnsley for 350k on my life well he didn,t listen so the best don,t know much I have praised Smith to Warnock and I unlike most of you will stand by my decision he will be great

Kin 'ell. You'd think we've blown our entire summer budget today with some of these reactions. It's such a low risk signing and is effectively replacing a forward we haven't hardly had chance to use in the last two years.

Plus he's still young and has spent most of his possible playing career out of the game.

It's not exactly a loss maker. It's a two year deal, if he does well in his first year he gets a longer contract and a pay rise. If he doesn't he either sees his final year out or goes on loan, or gets sold at the end of the season.

Disapointed that this is hailed as a good signing. The lad is a donkey, not what we need, but clearly a free signing was what swayed it. Nope, can't see him leading us to promotion at all.

Give BMD's judgment, and the lad a chance Billy<ok>

Lol leeds60, the aldi quote made me chuckle!! Look, I just feel this signing is underwhelming. If we had moved Varney on and this lad is a backup to another top striker we are in for, yhen great. Playing for Leeds is a massive step up, and with his inexperience chances are Smith will struggle. However, once the lad pulls on the shirt and runs onto the pitch I will back him all the way. I pray your prediction that he will be a success proves right, we really need positives.

Billy, there are so many examples of players who came from nowhere to become great at big clubs.

We need to give BM and new signings a chance.

I think many on here are unrealistic as to the signings we are capabale of attracting and getting these days.

We have to get off this apparent obsession with instant gratification.

Marching on Together!
