Rickie Lambert in particular was showing signs of a long hard season that took it's toll. There wasn't enough depth there for us to rest him.

Partially true. Mauricio stated that Rickie was struggling with a hip problem that has been troubling him.
I saw an article the other day with some hip specialists and Rickie had provided a quote about athletes dealing with long-term hip issues.
I think both arguments have credence.

I'd say the goals only dried up in the last six games. We conceded plenty of silly goals in 2013 - QPR, Newcastle and Wigan are good examples. Boruc has nothing to do with it; he's great, but a keeper can only do so much. The back line made me nervous from the first game right until the last.
Yep. Reached the same conclusion which is why I added my following comment on it.
We do need both defence strengthened and attack sharpened, however if I was only allowed to make one signing, then it would be a CB for me.

Yeah I saw those comments. This is what is leaning me towards him tbh, seems unusual for a player to talk so openly about a potential signing. Not sure when the Ramirez interview was done, but if it was at the back end of last week then it ties in with DTLW's source saying the player had signed on Weds/Thurs but Saints were waiting to announce it.
