Dave, my OP was not about how much blame or otherwise can be attached to Stuart Pearce for yesterday's performance, or for recent performances over, say, the last three years. My question was whether he should be re-appointed for a further period (three years). Is he capable of breaking the worn-out old mould and moving our youngsters forward; or is re-appointing him just prolonging the cycle of "success up to a point but in the end dismal failure"? Does he have what it takes to CHANGE things for the better, or would it simply be same old, same old, for another three years?
Robbie I agree your OP wasn't about that, but that hasn't stopped others from sticking the knife in his back, he has always been passionate about his country! The fact that he's distantly related to me has no bearing on the matter! Seriously, I am in the pro Pearce camp! And yes, we are really related, something like 32nd cousins!
I rather like him myself dave, he comes across as a thoroughly nice guy (and his being related to you has absolutely no bearing on my feeling towards him ); and being 32nd cousins (or whatever) does mean there's a good distance between you -- else he might clean you out with a ferocious tackle ...........
He's certainly a tough nut, I remember when he went to Wet Sham late in his playing days, he got wiped out by an awful tackle and he wanted to run it off! Turned out he'd broken his leg! That just sums the man up for me!

Sums up the bad state of our National teams at the moment. We are supposed to be developing our youth teams to make the move up to senior level, good luck with that. I feel sorry to Pearce he is stuck between a rock and a hard place TBH. The players dont even want to turn out for the National sides anymore with sudden injuries that have came out of nowhere and pulling out for "personal" reasons. Its embarrassing.
A large portion of blame lies with Hodgson because Pearce is tactically inept and only knows how to play long ball football. Poor Roy.
Sorry, but IMO that is simply papering over the cracks. Stuart Pearce has been in charge of the Under-21s since February 2007. In that time, has he really done anything with them that justifies re-appointing him for a further spell, or suggests that successive generations of young England players are in the best possible hands? Have players like Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wilshire, and the others who are with the senior squad, benefitted from Stuart Pearce's time as Under-21 coach? That's my question, and my answer is negative.

ha cromer, great minds think alike, i've just read it. it's an article i look out for as they do a premier league one in season-time. a slight shame the norfolk cafu doesn't get a mention.
nothing to do with the recent tournament, but i've never quite understood why stuart pearce was appointed in the first place. it obviously isn't based on his management record, nor is it based on his charisma, it certainly isn't based on his tactical nous or his intelligence and attitude as a coach. as far as i can tell, the only remit for him being appointed was that he was a former england great (and he was in my opinion a great). that is no reason to appoint someone and its no wonder that this country continues to fail to deliver on an international stage with this lopsided, backwards attitude we have to developing footballers. for the love of god, get someone intelligent in charge, someone who has masses of experience developing talented young players (like dario gradi) and lets start doing this properly. stuart pearce should never have been appointed.
just read on bbc sportsday that pearce's contract will NOT be renewed. thank goodness for that. please, lets do this right from now on!! fingers crossed.
I'm afraid that my expectations about the FA's next appointment are as low as carrabuh's about Chris Hughton's next signing . There have been rumours that Gareth Southgate is front runner. Oh dear! Nice enough guy, but surely not the man to drive a revolution forward.
So what if he's passionate about his country, whatever difference does that make. Whenever I hear him talk he sounds like he should be managing in the eighties. He's a **** manager with no ideas. One of the few occasions the FA have got something right.
