My (untested) theory with conspiracy theorists is that they're folk who've never gotten over finding out Santa wasn't real and the pretty extreme lengths their parents went to in order to create the illusion of Santa. I reckon a lot of distrust of your parents comes when you find out some of the best times you spent with them were on a fictitious premise.
I used to say the same but, really, that's far crueller than the deception. They'd resent you like **** for NOT lying to them in this instance.
