With the signings we have now made I reckon we are looking at two more to go a striker and a passing midfielder??

Personally I would be delighted if we could get one of huddlestone/McCarthy and one of bent/Defoe although transfer and wages may cause a problem! Lets gt them Done early and relax for the summer

Suppose it depends on the budget we have left, at a guess £10 mill how's about arshavin on a free and then bring in a big marquee signing for the full £10 mill

I agree those two positions are the most important, although I'd love for us to sign a LB to replace one of Riise/Richardson. Arshavin is apparently off to Azerbajan, and will become one of the world's highest paid players.

Good shout cookie. Although Defoe or Bent would be a no from me. What about giving MJ another 2 years as well. That for me would be a good signing!

To be honest, my problem with Bent is more to do with age and wage than ability. I can see him combining well with either Berba or Ruiz and scoring a lot of goals. I think we can get others who will do the same job for a lower wage, even if Villa drop their fee to something more reasonable than the £8-10m I've seen quoted (which I'm not sure they'll do). My other worry with Bent is that he seems the type to be a unhappy - and potentially disruptive - if he's not in the starting eleven. We can do without that kind of influence, so I'm hoping we take different options for a new striker.

Bent !!!! We could buy Harry's Mother-in-law instead for less <laugh>

Would Bent be a good partner for Berbatov ?, not sure, think we need a quick forward to go with Berba. But if Berbatov were to leave then I can see a case for buying Bent.
I still think Villa would look to get a lot of their money back, not sure I'd pay more then £5m for Bent.

Again I'm just not convinced Huddlestone is consistent enough.

We're still due at least one Jol loan signing in the last few days of the transfer window!

By my calculation we have 24 players on our squad list right now. I'm still expecting several departures though.

we know how MJ loves raiding leagues he has managed in, would like to see Adam Maher from AZ, this guy looks pretty good and hes only 19,

If they are going to look at AZ players, Maarten Martens has always impressed me, but he suffered a bad injury last season, and I think Andy Maher took his place and did well.

Maarten Martens, so good they named him twice! What position is he?

Central - Attacking Mid-fielder, He's Belgium, and competes with Dembele in the International team.

Another player I'd look at it Dries Mertens of PSV another Belgium international left or central midfield, tends to play the same role as Ruiz did, but he'd cost about £12m, and the likes of Liverpool and Totenham have been mentioned looking at him, think Martens of AZ would cost about £5m, but he's not as good as PSV's Mertens ...yet.

I know this is "off the beat" but it's the kind of news which irritates me. Aston Villa have signed a 23 year old attacking midfielder Aleksandar Tonev from the Polish club Lech Poznan. For £2.5m

Don't we have any scouts/intelligence in the Eastern European countries?

Tonev had two years remaining on his current contract at Lech Poznan, where he has scored seven goals in 51 league appearances. The right-footed player has been capped 11 times by Bulgaria and his three international goals came in the form of a hat-trick in a 6-0 World Cup qualifying win over Malta in March.

I have just read on another thread that Honda at Cska Moscow is out of contract, an attacking midfielder, national captain A better version of Inamoto. It was only a few years back he was being linked with the top top clubs lets get him signed up and then we have the rest of our budget (10 mill guess) to buy a top top striker

I second going for Honda as well, he impressed me playing Internationals. Bit like a young Karagounis.

In fairness, the BBC says he's mates with Stiliyan Petrov and is a winger.

Also, Honda would be a good swoop.

No Jozy Altidore? Scored 31 goals in 39 games for AZ this year. Fulham has a pretty good record with American players.
