LONDON EVE STD REPORTS: The future of QPRâs planned new training ground has been thrown into turmoil by a legal challenge from west London residents. They call Ealing councilâs decision to grant planning permission for the £30 million complex illegal and are preparing a High Court claim. Hanwell Community Forum this week served legal papers on the council, accusing it of ârelegating residentsâ green spacesâ. It says QPRâs plans for the 60-acre Warren Farm Sports site will wreck the character of the protected Metropolitan Open Land, which is Londonâs green belt equivalent. The football club intended to start work on the scheme soon but now faces a delay pending the outcome of legal proceedings. HCF said: âThe council is basically giving away to a commercial organisation a valuable piece of public land that should be open to everybody.â Ealing council leader Julian Bell said: âWe will be able to show that we acted in residentsâ interests.â QPR declined to comment.
The news just gets better now the traning ground, next it will be the stadium & then go into admin & have to ground share with scum! i thought this summer was to build up the team & off load players take it easy & get prepared for championship all done nice & quietly & no fuss, now BOOM everythings going pear shaped, oh for a quiet life.
If that's actually the case - and I've got no idea either way - then I think the green belt land should be protected, if used as such by local people. I still like LR.
Don't get this.....it's always been a green space.....it was school playing fields for years run bt the ILEA.....don't know if that has changed but i thought part of the planning was that it included access to local communities etc.....It's not as if it is going to be changed into a concrete jungle..... NIMBY's.......?
It is not like there is not another facility across the road from Warren Farm as it is, the local residents won't get there way as money talks in the end the training ground will go ahead this is just a small delay.
Doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Brentford FC have their training ground right next door, and no one's complaining. If anything the residents should be glad that they're going to be able to have access to a modern, fully updated and properly maintained facility at zero cost to them or anyone in the borough. There really is no pleasing some people.
Sounds more like the Hanwell people, who wanted their own community version taken up, are making their last stand after not getting what they wanted. All seems above board, as much as these things do, with widespread support for the solution. As said - they get a revamped and maintained community area at no cost to their own household bills. Look at the pictures of it now! They should be glad someone is taking it on in all honesty.
Maybe the reason behind the clubs official site releasing these articles two days ago: http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/040613-warren-farm-in-pictures-850465.aspx http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/040613-residents-welcome-rs-at-warren-farm-850636.aspx
Isn't this just par for the course with any major development? There are always NIMBYs (not criticising - I'm sure I would be same) but the fact is the Council are pretty experienced in what they can and can't do in these matters and they are very unlikely to have given permission if a legal chalenge, which I am sure was anticipated, was likely to have any legs on it. Likely just an annoying delay but then again, in British Law, there are no guarantees.
Nothing worthwhile comes easy...what's worrying is that, in the current financial climate, no Council will want to expend huge sums on legal fees defending a High Court action. As a guess, QPR may be able join the action as a third party and fund the defensive work itself
across the road is acrearge owned by the Sultan of Brunei..surely you don't think the council will want that back!
When you look at the plans all the new buildings are on the site of the current buildings, all the open spaces are retained. When I played there in the 70's it was fairly basic as it was run by the ILEA and if nothing has been done in the intervening years it would now be truly antiquated.....Maybe they are all chelsea, arsenal, spurs, man u fans!!!!!!
If there are enough of them, and it means that much to them, they can make life difficult. They've launched, or are about to launch, a High Court action. It would be foolish indeed to do that without having the means to fund it (Hopefully none will get Legal Aid)
Another thought. For those of us who are Ealing residents and QPR fans, should we lobby our Councillors to make sure they know that we oppose the oppposers!!
Its a remote area, Id love to know why the NIMBYs dont want this. I bet you every single one of them is retired and they cannot come up with single reason for it. It the council renovated it, theyd claim it was a waste of tax money and theyd claim its an arson risk or chavs hanging around if it was left as it is. I dont think we have anything to worry about. Just some losers with nothing better to do trying to get on the news.
I was more on about Osterley Sports club that has masses of land there and the team that played there is moving this summer so the good people of Hanwell can just go there if they are that bothered
Theyre complaining its going to be fenced off. So theyd rather have a derelict vandalised area with open access thats not used any more rather than a safe renovated area thats paid for by a private company. Heres the woman responsible. I would suggest she needs to get laid but that doesnt seem to be an option for the Ms. please log in to view this image http://www.ealinggazette.co.uk/ealing-news/local-ealing-news/2013/06/06/64767-33437947/?
It's not changed at all Tramore! Although I've played many a memorable game there, I don't recall anyone enjoying having to play there! It's a s**thole, the changing rooms still look like WWII bunkers........
