bentley is set to be released on july 1st.

in other news monaco have also signed james rodriguez and are close to getting valdez. Liverpool have signed Kolo Toure.

As for us, nothing. Just constant bale rumours which are reworded differently everyday and us being linked to the same players. (Villa & Damiao)
 
Thanks Roo/Spurf. Obviously I wasn't expecting us to have actually signed anyone and I could find that out myself, my Internet-fu isn't that weak, lol.
So it's just mout that is a 100% no-go then? And soon to be falcao, who we were clearly in for ;)

On falcao - disappointed in him, I really rate him as one of the best centre forwards I've seen and he's gone for the money to a weaker league when he could have gone anywhere
 
Moutinho is absolutely game over. he's signed for monaco in a deal with rodriguez worth 69mill or something.

and yep, falcao has all but signed i think. (it may well be official, but i'm not sure as i spent the weekend stuffing my face with BBQ'd food and drank lots of beer)

I think Falcao's move to Monaco is a good one personally. Monaco, with the recent relegation/ promotion aside, have been a very big club in Europe. Now that they've got huge financial backing, the signings of Moutinho, Rodriguez, Carvahlo and now Falcao (and pretty much Victor Valdes) is signalling their intent to once again become a big force in Europe. Lets not forget that Monaco itself is a beautiful place (for the rich!), so I think that too can also play a big factor in persuading a player. Admittedly Ligue 1 isn't as strong as the EPL, La Liga and the Bundesliga but it's not an atrocious league. PSG got to the quarters of the CL (albeit due to their recent backing) this season, being knocked out by Barcelona.

If I had the choice of all the money clubs to join (City, Chelsea, PSG, Anzhi and Monaco), Monaco would definitely be my preferred choice.

It may also be a case of Monaco being the only club that was willing to meet the release clause (which I think is the case anyway), so Falcao had a choice of another season at a good club like Atletico Madrid, or go to Monaco, double/ treble his salary, live in one of the most glamorous places in the world and also challenge for major honours domestically and potentially in Europe afterwards.

Absolutely none...nor would you if you read it properly, instead of getting all excited about the sky reporters stretch of imagination headline. Every question answered correctly. Yes, it would be an honour if Madrid are interested in ANY agents client. Yes, there are 3 years on his contract, and no, there's no new deal yet. The latter is hardly going to be announced in such a fashion, in a casual interview with some tit of a sky reporter, the 'diplomatic' answer has to be no.
 
I don't think like Modric that he'd suit Real Madrid. I posted that I thought Modric's move there was a mistake and I think Bale's will be too if he goes. Now I'm not for keeping unsettled players so with the money we could get for him I say let him go. The goons still finished 4th without Van Persie so there's no reason to think that we couldn't without Bale. I guess that's all.

Dress it up how you want, bottom line is Bales agent gets a big pay day if he goes and Bale get rewarded handsomely

Bale & his agent will undoubtedly be rewarded handsomely should he go. However, so will Spurs, to the tune of £60-70mil. So, I wouldn't get too excited, we could strengthen significantly with that sort of money.

But how well will it be reinvested?

Holte, Dembele and Dempsey all went off the boil. Bale has rescued you lot so many times to get you points he is vital to you and would be irreplaceable

Internacional president Giovanni Luigi insists he is currently not in talks with any club about star striker Leandro Damiao.

The Brazilian international striker has been followed closely by Tottenham - who have made more than one bid for him over the past 18 months,

With Napoli and Marseille also linked in recent weeks, a move to Europe again looks on the agenda for the 23-year-old.

Luigi was in Europe last week, when he attended the Champions League final in London - but he insisted that was nothing to do with Damiao.

"No club contacted me. I was there [in Europe] alone," Luigi told Radio Gaucha.

"I went to see the [Wembley] stadium well and to watch the game. But I didn't talk with anybody regarding the player."

Luigi did admit that he was expecting offers - but did not know if Tottenham would be back for him.

"It's possible that an offer happens, but I don't know if it will be from Tottenham," he said.

"The player has been called up again, will play the Confederations Cup and is wanted [by many clubs]."

O.k. Let's get some things straight. Both Dembele & Holtby are class players. Dembele went off the boil through various injuries, and from losing his most effective midfield partner - Sandro. Holtby is young, and has come from a completely different league. However, you do not get to play for the German national side if you are an average player. I think we'll more of him next season. Dempsey, I would agree about. Although I'm not sure he was ever on the boil. Useful squad player - no more.

Where would the money be spent? Well, I would hope on two top class strikers to start with. Had we had at least one last season we would have finished comfortably in the top 4. Also, not so much would have been on Bale's shoulders. We could also use a top notch attacking/creative midfield play - who can score a few goals as well.

Of course it would be impossible to replace the threat that Bale poses to any side with one single player. You can, however, buy 2-3 top quality players who all pose a threat. That gives the opposition more than one player to worry about.

Agreed.

The other thing is that at the moment teams sit very deep, knowing that if they take bale out of the game, they basically negate us.
With more options and different scoring opertunities we could go back to winning by more than one goal when teams open up.

It is no surprise that Ade did better with VDV along side him in a 4-4-1-1 then with Dempsey, Defoe or Bale. Bale did very well on his own, but when in the middle did not create chances like VDV, or when he did just took them himself. So we ended up with 2 up front, but one being completely ineffective.

Imo One striker, One winger, One atacking midfielder would be needed to replace bale. If we got those (proven players) from his money then we would be fine, and would still have modric funds etc for further squad depth.

Your whole post revolves around the word 'if'...come back when you've got a bit more than ifs, buts, and silly pieces of page filling reporting.

And, of course Bale and his agent would get money in the event of a transfer...anything else obvious you'd like to tell us?

Barnett finished the interview with "there have been no talks with RM" and that "Gareth is happy at WHL"....conveniently omitted by the sky reporter!
 
Much as I like Gareth Bale in the sense that he's a great footballer as well as appearing to be a decent fellow, I think Spurs can adapt without him in the team. There are many examples of teams who have managed when their "superstar" player leaves for another club and although Spurs would not get a like-for-like replacement for Bale, no-one is indispensable.

But, I hope Spurs can keep him without the situation getting messy (aka Modric). But if he wants to leave, Levy should simply allow him to do so whilst optimising the maximum (and realistic) value for him. I for one do not object to players wishing to move on (for whatever reasons) but hope they don't manipulate the media to force a move.
 
I tend to agree. If he's staying, give him the new contract with higher wages that he deserves, if not, sell him soon so we have the funds to build a team without him. That way those new players have a full preseason with the existing squad members and we can move on.

The sale of bale at the end of the summer will be disastrous.

Anyway, it's all speculation. I am pretty sure he won't leave this summer.

Agreed and agreed. I think Bale, at this stage with a new baby, will want to stay in the PL, and I imagine life for him is great so why risk it all when he has many years of playing left.
