Pompey did spend £25m. That was the problem. Just admit you misjudged the financial clout of Cardiff, and move on.

I never admit I'm wrong about things that I'm right about. Cardiff will struggle & won't spend as much as they say they will. You can save this post, along with my other gems in your collection for future reference.

How much do you think they will spend then?

Well done to all the promoted teams. Watching the game today I tried to imagine both teams playing the PL. And at no point did I feel convinced either could stay up.

I think the pressure of the occasion got to them a lot, but yeah all the promoted teams need to strengthen. I don't think the standard at the top of the championship was as high as it was last year.

Strengthen in an understatement with Palace, I think. Of their top three scorers, one may miss at least the first half of next season, another has already been sold, and the third celebrates his 40th birthday this summer. They weren't particularly solid defensively, either; their 62 goals allowed left them in a tie for 12th in the Championship. It was a miracle season to get promotion...it'll be a far greater miracle if they survive.

It's Aaron Martin's fault for all them goals conceded! Holloway is a very open and attacking minded manager, in all fairness.

And so the three teams relegated in the 2004/2005 season are promoted back to the premier league in consecutive years. Cool.

Have Palace ever stayed up?

A quick look on wikipedia tells me that the first season of the PL was their fourth consecutive top flight season. But they were relegated that season, and yes have never ultimately had consecutive seasons in the PL.

They've been missing Paddy McCarthy haven't they? No idea when he'll be fit. They'll be needing strengthening just about everywhere anyway.

I have a similar feeling about Cardiff. Can't put my finger on it yet, but there's something I don't quite like. I am not convinced these guys won't take a shed load out of the club now they are promoted. I think CBK could well be right.

Certainly a lot of their fans seem uncomfortable with the way they're going, had a protest march through the city centre yesterday (all wearing blue of course).
