The irony is you and the rest bring up that 50 million pounds we spent on Torres you fail to see that he makes Chelsea millions in shirt sales infact the third most sold shirt in world football last year was Chelsea 9 Torres.

There is only one player in England who is bigger than his club. His name is bale and Spurs are too small for him

Given your user name I guess you can remember when Chelsea were London's fourth club just before the Osgood era when West Ham won a European trophy, Spurs.ruled the roost and Arsenal were just a sleeping giant. I concede its all changed now but I'm sure it will all change again

If that's true, fair enough. However, my point was that it was Abramovich, and Abramovich alone who arbitrarily decided to cough up £50mil for a player who clearly had already lost something of what he was. If he has recouped some of that on shirt sales, I would guess that is more by luck. And, if he has recouped something he's certainly done better than his last impulse buy - a certain Mr Shevchenko!

Oh! Come on. You know as well as I do that he owes much of his fortune to his manipulation of a sad old drunk by the name if Yeltsin.

Rules what? You had 2 good seasons and did very little in the next 50.

Chelsea have never been London's 4th side, even when 2nd division.

You haven't ruled the roost since 1961 pal and they didn't even have colour when that happened <laugh>

Maybe you can console yourself by watching the Spud cd review of the season which runs 36 games.<ok>

Ok, quick history lesson. In 1996 Yeltsin was about to be deposed by a resurgent communist party. In return for their support, he offered very lucrative state assets at knockdown prices to Abramovich & Berezovsky, especially.

To be fair, it was essentially Berezovsky who stabbed Yeltsin in the back by creating he Unity party & promoting a certain Mr.Putin. We all know how that one turned out.

Where Abramovich has been smart is in that he hasn't attempted to play politics. He also "agreed" to sell back to the state, in the form of Gazprom, his majority stake in Sibneft. Not that I think Putin gave him too many options!..
