It's expected to be announced tomorrow. I think this must change the opinion of many on here (including me) who think that the Europa would be a hinderance at the moment. Surely this is our most likely way into the Champions League that Cortese so desperately desires. Does this make people think differently about the Europa League, do you think we'll be good enough to win it in say 3 years?

I think it's a lot fairer if this becomes the case.

I was desperately disappointed that Spurs missed out because Chelsea won the Champions League.

My Spurs supporting mate was gutted. Rightly so.

I'm still sticking to my idea of combining the Champions and Europa League, teams finishing higher can still enter at a later stage like it works at the moment, you can still have the prelim rounds, group stages etc. None of this failure rewarding nonsense with dropping from CL to EL.

I'm with you on that.

Makes sense on the face of it, but does this mean a new place will be created in the Champions league to accommodate the Europa league winners, or will it be like if you win the Champions league, you get in but someone else from your country misses out?

Imagine if we had two English winners, neither of which finished in the top four. Then only the 1st and 2nd placed teams would qualify.

Also, it is kind of unambiguously casting the Europa league as a second-class competition isn't it?

That is a bloody good thing for football, it makes teams take the Europa League seriously in the early stages. Now need to do the same with the FA Cup.
