Re-Coker, now this is one rumour that i would like to be true, and for free, would be a great addition to the squad, but i read before that several clubs are after him, come on bruce get in there fast, one of the better one's-and for free.

P.S, since when have we been linked with Negredo?

Sunderland have set their sights on Nigel Reo-Coker, who has been freed by Aston Villa.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce wanted free agents David Vaughan and Seb Larsson from Blackpool and Birmingham respectively. Vaughan, 28, is close to joining Rangers, but Bruce is still hopeful that Larsson, 25, will join – and now he has turned to 27-year-old Reo-Coker, 27, as he tries to strengthen his midfield.

Spurs striker Peter Crouch is also on the hitlist, but Bruce’s chances of persuading Seville’s Alvaro Negredo to move there look very unlikely.

Since captaining the Hammers as a young man, he looked ot be the business. But he has since to fulful that promise at Villa, where he has barely played the last 3 years. However if we can coax out that original mentality that made him a premiership captain at 21, then he may turn out to be a great free transfer.

I'd get a lot more excited by Negredo.

it's tempting on a free but not sure if we need him tbh. att we've got 4 young midfielders 3 of which have are from NE and 4th learnt his trade here in henderson/colback/cattermole and meyler. is he better than any of these? and that's not including others, ie richardson, malbranque, elmo etc

As has been shown this season, the squad is paper thin, no quality replacements if (when) injuries/suspensions start to bite. He is an experience premier midfielder and would only improve the squad. I'd say go for him and as a central midfielder(?) I'd feel more comfortable him in there than richardson, malbranque or elmo as cover.

Has a worse record than Catts and would bring nothing else to us that we don't already have we need to improve with quality and, should be looking at the weaker areas first ie. up front and the whole left hand side.

According to a few of todays papers we are after these four.

Apparently seeing as it looks like Vaughan will sign for Rangers Brucie has turned his attention to Reo-Coker who is out of contract. Would be a good signing the lad has premier league experience and at 27 is still fairly young.

Larrson as we know has been linked for a while now would offer something different, like Henderson he can play in the middle or on the right but offers quality from dead ball situations that we definately struggle with.

Crouch, not suprised with this one but would be a good striker, he knows how to score goals but think I would rather take Pav from Spurs.

Negredo, cannot see this one happening myself but the lad is briliant, dont think he would swap Sevilla for Sunderland though.

TBH after watching him this season, I wouldn't say that Henderson can play in the middle, defo more of a right winger, too lightweight for central mid.
