Pulis obviously did a good job on the players............

http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...-stoke-could-do-charlton-after-tony-puli-1980

Stoke City midfielder Matt Etherington has told talkSPORT Potters fans they ‘should be careful what they wish for’ amid reports that Tony Pulis is to leave the club.

Supporters have called for Pulis’ exit following an under-par Premier League season, finishing just six points clear of relegation in 13th place.

The Potters boss is currently the second longest-serving manager in the top flight, though his seven-year reign at the Britannia Stadium is set to end after overwhelming rumours suggest he will depart his role by mutual consent following a meeting with club chairman Peter Coates.
I’m very shocked at the news, he's a fantastic man. You have to be careful what you wish for in football sometimes— Matt Etherington

But Etherington, who has spent five seasons at Stoke since his switch from West Ham in 2008, says the team are shocked by the gossip, and that the uncertainty at the club could see them emulate Charlton, who dropped to League One following the departure of Alan Curbishley after his 15-year stay as Addicks manager.

“I’m very shocked at the news and I’ve spoken to a couple of the other boys and they’re shocked as well, it’s hit us,” he told Drive Time. “He’s a great man, a fantastic man.

“He’s done a lot for me personally, a lot for the football club and for the people of Stoke-on-Trent as well.

“He’s done a great job at the football club, a lot of fans were grumbling and saying they wanted him out, and - though it hasn’t been confirmed yet - it looks like they’ve got their wish.

“You have to be careful what you wish for in football sometimes. You look at Charlton under Alan Curbishley and look where they are now.

“Hopefully it won’t go that way for us, hopefully we’ll get someone in who will push us on and make us into a top ten team.”

bad news for stoke i think.pullis is a good manager and have done brilliant at stoke over the years...who next...mark hughes is a candidate...

Training - for what?

In my, albeit cynical opinion, the players that came put with the most vociferous support for Pulis, were those least likely to hold down a place in a Championship team.

Whelan driving a Porsche; should be a MkII Cortina.

Exactly what I though Nicky, Etherington knows his free ride of £30000 a week has come to an end and wont get near the first team , we just need the new manager to get rid of the rest of the ****

Dai would you be happy to have Pulis has Swansea manager?

Di Matteo is the odds on favourite to replace him and Hughes can feck off!

Swans fan why do you just jog off fella, it's not your club is it? And would not wish Pulis on any CLUB. Kept us up yes, playing CRAP footie and hated by ALL fans Swansea fans included may I say. Yep, I read the boards and it's a known fact we're HATED for our Style. That was the "Pulis way" now he's gone. Why don't you back to your own board. Who knows you too might need a new Manager soon. Cough Mr Laudrup to Everton... Pulis to Swansea he would be closer to home.

Fit and Training Etherington does not do both at the same time. And yes they helped you Ether's. Coates paid off your gambling debts.

Brain Washed? Nah I'll go for using cold water, electric cables and a sponge.

Talk about chalk and cheese with Di Matteo and Pulis, hopefully you can look forward to some good football. Tell me, was Pulis always such a negative manager with his lump it forward tactics, or was he just working with the players that he had?

Well as he bought the players, picked the team and set the tactics i think we know where to lay the blame. He has history of the same style of ****e everywhere he been.

Brought good player's but could not handle them.. nor did he play them often enough. Too much dead wood and he kept faith with most of those. Negative he almost sent me asleep no mind the player's. Tactically useless had a five year plan. FIVE years later we're back where we started IMO almost without the passion our players then had it. Or you could ask Gillingham fans, I did and he was the same there. He's also an arrogant son of a ***** Good riddance.

Like you say mate, a vested interest at least!

Did really well up until 2011. The season we made the FA cup final we were bloody brilliant, and genuinely exciting to watch, in spite of what those brainwashed by the media will tell you. Went backwards from there when Pulis fell out with Pennant, and Etherington started to go downhill, and Pulis didn't seem able to replace them properly.

I genuinely don't think we'd have made the Prem and established ourselves as we have without Tony Pulis at the helm, but I think his time had probably come. Hopefully we'll get another manager who doesn't give a feck what everyone else thinks, and will keep the ethos of a hardworking side with good team spirit, only with a bit more of an adventurous streak and some bloody pace out wide.

So long Tony, and thanks for the memories!

Great post Peadar
Long time no speak chuffed to see you posting again.

For a player who has done very little for the past couple of seasons he is being very vocal - maybe TP is taking him with him?
