Talking of Liverpool I wonder what the deal is with Skrtel? He seems to be out of favour and would definitely be an upgrade on what we currently have.

Wasn't Ramirez our highest earner at around £35k net? So £70k?

€70k. So just over £60k.

Lambert and Lallana were on £25k a week last season, factor in promotion bonuses and new contracts, likely to be on Premier League wages. You are looking at £50,000 per week.

Yeah Liverpool supposedly offering him between 50-60k a week

Which I reckon is slightly higher than what the highest earner at Saints gets, but if you consider that it would only be a one or two-year contract for Toure, it's not all that expensive. Assuming it's 60k over two years, and there's no transfer fee, that's an expense of £6.24m over the duration of the contract. You can probably round that up to £7m including other fees. Not particularly expensive.

I honestly find it hard to believe Lambert, Lallana or Ramirez are on £50k+.

Would say more like 40-45k.

Would I like Saints to sign Toure for 2 years with a total spend of £6.24m?

Nope, probably not!

Same here.

Doesn't really make sense to me in all honesty, and I don't think Cortese is that daft either.

I still think our top earners must be in the high £30k's p/w - I'd honestly be surprised (and a little bit concerned) if any of those three, or any other member of the current squad - was earning in excess of £40k p/w. Maybe Morgan, but I could take that.

I think Ramirez possibly, early in the season some of the other players alluded to the fact he's earning a lot more than anyone else, though since then a few of them have had new contracts. I'd still be surprised is they are on more than £50k though.

Of course, the basic wage is only half the story with all the bonuses and stuff they get.

Guess the key there is are you talking gross or net earnings? I'm guessing net in which case I hope you are right. I'm happy for us to pay high transfer fees where necessary as long as the wages are not too high, one off expenditure is workable but paying out a £1M a week in wages isn't if you fall out of the league etc... (although with parachute payments...)

Yeah, you have to hope a player stays for the duration (if they are good) - and therefore their fee can be considered on an annual basis as less.

EG. Gaston, £11.8m, on a 4 year-deal. So just under £3m a season for his services. Of course, if you sell you reclaim some of the £ anyway.

Obviously the contracts include the normal clauses and bonuses so any £x,000/week figure is just conjecture.

^should have this line on permanent copy+paste.

Ramirez will only be on about 30-40k at most, he had his wages trebled from $9k a week, apparently. Doesn't mean much but when we were in L1 a friend of mine's family member (can't remember who?) was involved in Fonte buying his house down here and found out that Fonte was only on about £10k a week. So, I think that our wages are relatively low but have bonuses like clean sheets, goals, etc.

bloody hope not!

Just read on a rumour website that Erik Lamela is in negotiations with us for £15,000,000. As unbelievably ridiculous as this is and as much as I don't believe a single word I read on those sites, I have decided I'm going to believe this because it gives me a funny feeling in my belly. :emoticon-0100-smile Can we start a Saint Erik thread please? :bandit:

Wages of £10k a week in League One are pretty massive to be honest.
