Released by Norwich today. Free, wages not big. Worth a go in my book - certainly good enough as a squad player in CCC, probably good enough to start. Thoughts?
Don't think Col would be too pleased with a Norwich reject. I would say he is worth a punt. He's still quite young isn't he? Norwich fans, give us your opinions please......
I would argue with Superhoop that he is on the way down............As he has not really been given the opportunity to play much in the PL it would be near impossible to say where he currently is. What I can say about him though is..... He is quick He is a natural goalscorer He would be an ideal fit in the Championship BUT He is a very much a confidence player as far as I can make out. The season we both got promoted SJ did not have a great start to the season (lots of games with no goals) and his confidence did go right down but for some reason in March of that season he got his chance to show his worth again and he took it with both hands bagging two hat-tricks in a month and didn't stop scoring for the rest of the season, including the goal that confirmed promotion. He has the ability at the right level, no question about that but he is not likely to shine in the PL as he is also perhaps a little lightweight. If the ambition is to bounce back first time then you may have a player on a contract in the PL you probably wont use or wont be able to produce what is needed at that level. In conclusion - a great little player IF the manager can get the best out of him. So while I disagree with Superhoops analysis, he might actually be right but not for the reason he gave.
Thank you for your perspective Thai. Interesting. I think he still might be a good signing; it's hardly a huge risk with no fee etc. And if we as a club are serious about actually becoming more sensible, we need to coach average players into good players and good players into great players. He's 'that' kind of signing if you ask me. I'm not saying he should start each week, but would certainly strengthen the current squad.
Quick player and is a goal scorer at Championship level. Would be good for you boys and also has a great work ethic.
Trouble is, as soon as he gets a sniff that QPR might be interested in him out will come the Ferrari and private yacht brochures and he'll stay in bed till noon.
Definitely good enough for any Championship outfit. Not the most clinical finisher but a fantastic athlete who will give 100% all the time.
He left us to go to Norwich and we were certainly all sad to see him leave. Way above our level of football at the time and will easily slot into a Championship side. Never stops working, has a keen eye for goal and is/was exceptionally fit. One of those strikers who EVERY time the keeper takes a drop kick he will take a jump just in case it was miss-hit and he might be able to make a chance.
Jackson would be a good addition to your squad. Agree with what other Norwich posters have said. We also released Elliott Ward today. He spent last season on loan at Forest and played a major part in their late run that alomost led to the play offs. A good honest CB who played a key role in our promotion season. Not sure if he is going to join Forest next season but if not worth a look.
A hard-working player who thrives on the confidence given to him by a manager and fans alike, who has an eye for goal; and happens to come at a heavy discount in terms of both wages and initial fees. Nah, actually, I'd rather sign Michael Owen. He's a bigger name.
I am pretty certain we looked at this chap before? We were on the way up then but given our current situation, surely this is the sort of player required??
I remember watching him at HQ in our promotion season and thought he was ****! Obviously that was only one game but seemed to me to be a poor mans Mackie, bags of effort but limited ability.
