stats don't lie, so only for those who think Jos was the most worse players this season some nice statistics: http://sfcplayerstats.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/defenders-stats.jpg?w=560&h=170
Hooiveld, for me, tends to have either solid games or dodgy games. I rate both Maya and Jose above him, but think that we need him to start for the aerial duals, so my first two CBs are Maya, our best CB/tackler, and Jos, our best headerer (if that's a word!).
What about the stats? According to those (and other) his play leeds to better results as from the other defenders....so, according to you stats just lie?
What about them? Care to explain these stats? Points per game (when starting) Shaw 1.36 Yoshida 1.26 Clyne 1.08 Fonte 0.96 Hoovield 0.96 (0.957) Fox 0.64
Good stats also, but are related to the results of the whole team. It is Obvious that those who played the most games (i think Hooiveld and Clyne) have a lower score on that. So, does not mean that much. The stats i used are individual results, not a teamresult. We also know that the results in he beginning where no good. Partly because of the class of the opponents (top 5 clubs) but also because of the fact that our midfield was not organized. Caused a lot of problems for defenders at those games.
Games started: Clyne 34 Yoshida 31 Fonte 25 Hoovield 23 Shaw 22 Fox 14 The reason the results were not good at the start is mainly because didn't have our best centre back (Yoshida) and best left back (Shaw) playing. And the fact Cork was injured.
Stats don't lie, but people's interpretations of their meanings do. From your interpretation, you could also say Jamie Carragher is the second best passer of the ball in the league.
They look impressive, but they exclude a lot of detail. For example, if I make 1 tackle (successful) in a match and spend the rest of it making daisy chains, I'd have better tackling stats than any of them.
Okay I take the meh back... It was meant as a kind of "yeah alright season" type jobbie... All this stuff about conduit etc shows people need to go into some detail to describe Davises season, which quite frankly I couldnt be bothered to go into. Maybe he did help in attack but come on even schneiderlin scored more and he never scores!
Hooiveld's dodgy games all come when he plays with Fox at left back, and looks more solid with shaw alonside him. Funny that.
Also, his bad run at the start of the season co-incided with Jack Cork's prolonged absence through injury. With Cork in front of the defence, it looked more solid whoever played Centre Back.
