^^^^I think this is an important, if not the most important bit of business we do...and quickly before the TW opens, it'll give the middle finger to all the vultures and journo's desperate to upset things, some nobhead posters too, but I doubt that in all honesty!

not only that, but it shows other players that we want to sign for us that we mean business and we're trying to build.
If we qualify for the CL at the end of next season having strengthened this summer, he might not leave at all.

  5. Just what I was thinking - what an incentive to come to Spurs, to play alongside one of the most exciting players in the world. It's a fantastic advertisement for the club - indicates what a great place it is to be.

Just hope the story is accurate!!

There seems to be stuff on certain Man U fan pages on FB suggesting that Bale has had offers from United and Madrid already, and that he's said that if he goes he wants to stay in England. Now I've seen nothing about this on news websites and the pages aren't linking to anything so its likely idle speculation and a WUM but I really hope he comes out and either signs the contract or says he's going to stay just to shut the speculation up, because its been less than a day already and my frankly nerves are getting frayed. Hopefully while he's in the Bahamas away from the national media over the next few days we can sit him down and get a deal done and dusted. Hopefully.

EDIT: they're saying Sky Sports for the rumour but there's nothing on the Sky Sports facebook page or the news website. I'm probably getting wound up too easily about nothing here to be honest aren't I.

You're in for a long summer if that sort of thing winds you up 'Fro <laugh>

I can see United attempting to bring Ronaldo back, before turning to Bale if that fails.

  8. The BBC - in this instance Radio 5 - have again shown themselves to be at the forefront of cheap journalism.

All day they have been wheeling out a variety of footballing nobodies - including the 2nd rate ex-goon Perry Groves - who, surprise, surprise, are advocating Bale having to leave Spurs for the sake of his career. They are all suggesting ManUre as his best option.

    Pathetic, sensationalist agenda-filling crap.

One thing is for sure, that if Bale does move on this summer it won't be to ManUre or any other top PL-side. Not only am I not sure any of them currently have the necessary available finances to support the bid (bearing in mind the implementation of FFP etc), but if they think the club would allow a player half way through an existing contract to move to a rival then they obviously don't know much about Daniel Levy either.

Thats the thing though, if Ronaldo stays at Madrid then Utd will go for Bale, and if Ronaldo goes to Utd the Madrid will want Bale. I think Ronaldo will stay put if Mourinho goes, and that looks fairly likely doesn't it now. That may be good for us as Levy is highly unlikely to sell to the PL IMO.

I'm getting too easily wound up atm haha, I put it down to uni exam stress and not having drunk for 4 days. Not that I'm counting eh?

I think United have a lot less money than people think. Certainly a lot less than they should have given their brand/revenue. Sounds weird but I'm not sure they could afford Bale - anyway for all the anti-Levy sentiment on here at the moment, if he sold I doubt Levy would sell to another PL club.

The "itk's" on twitter have been saying for about 3 weeks that a contract is being sorted an that bale is staying.
Today it's being said that he's signing a new contract and its supposedly sorted and that an announcement is imminent.
I know we have our doubts over these people, but they've been adamant for ages.

I really don't think we need to worry about him leaving. Not this season anyway.

Doubtless the twatsacks (otherwise known as The Daily Mail) will say it's just so we get more money for him...

Nobody knows do they? There are many factors to consider and given that none of us know Gareth Bale personally, we can only speculate.

I think his resolve will be tested- if his resolve is indeed a factor- because he is now probably the leading player in the PL and he will certainly be motivated to showcase his talents on the biggest stage, which means playing in CL finals and winning league titles. Spurs failure to qualify for the CL must be a concern for him if he has these ambitions. At almost 24 he is no longer the up and coming player, but a world class star who can dictate his own terms. I'm sure he feels settled at Spurs, but there will be offers from all the leading clubs. Not everyone is motivated to go abroad - and Bale strikes me as a home bird - but the lure of a club like Utd might be hard to resist. Contrary to public perception, Utd do have plenty of cash for transfers and a marquee signing is due. In fact, it's essential. SAF can't be replaced, but Moyes receives one hell of a boost and confidence around the club rises if a player of Bale's ability joins. The club and the fans immediately look forward, rather than back, with thoughts of just what Bale could do in a red shirt.

In this dog eat dog world of football, I really hope, as a fan, that he joins Utd, but I would respect his loyalty if he stayed with Spurs. As I first said, it's all speculation.

I think he will stay at least one more season. However, it is clear that we cannot expect to hang on to a player of his class indefinitely if we do not give him the platform his talents deserve.

Over to you Mr. Levy. Get your finger out of your arse and into your wallet.

    Surely he's got to?!
Major issues havent been taken care of which we've discussed at length. Keeping Bale is what levy owes the fans, at the very least IMO.

In part I agree, Bale does seem level headed, a homebird and not in any rush to isolate himself and his family abroad. Whilst you feel United are still an instant attraction, from outside your club, no, it would be wise for him to see how your season goes under the massive change ahead. There is an element of uncertainty at each top club that can afford him, so another year with us while he's 24 is hardly going to damage his career.

Robbie Savage was saying on Final Score he should leave even if we finished fourth.

Robbie Savage should leave punditry no matter where we, or any other Premier League team, finishes this season.
