total faliure by england again at the start today. no runs, no good target to bowl at so we can only HOPE our bowlers are really effective again.
England are in the driving seat here. They have the runs on the board, NZ need to make the highest total of the match and their part time spinner is turning the ball at right angles. Anderson & Swann to rip through them and reckon we'll win by 50+ runs.
NZ have time on their side (barring rain/light delays) but like IBWT says England probably favourites here, especially with early breakthrough.
braod is in amongst them... how nice! Anderson takes a 5 for at lards and broad wants one too.... this one might be over today!!
wow, broad 5for.... this game is over. 29/6 is a complete and utter collapse. there's no way to bat long enough nor catch england from there so its just a matter of pride now. 50 all out??
Superb bowling this morning. We have two very good bowlers. The seam movement broad gets is tremendous then having jimmy tying them in knots with in swingers then outswingers. Marvellous to watch
What a spell of top quality bowling Off to the pub pre-match in a bit and it could be all over by the time I get out Broad's best spell for quite a while and Jimmy setting up Brownlie with a couple of absolute Jaffas Sort the batting out and we'll steam-roller all before us....happy days.
Quality bowling. I feared the worst when our wickets starting falling. Good stuf but we must improve for the Ashes.
Just shows a test isn't over after day one. And also how they fluctuate, which is what makes them so great. We need Pietersen back really then we're in business, I'd be concerned facing the Aussies with Root, Compton and Bairstow in the side. Having KP back means we don't have to play Bairstow. Got me doubts about Compton too, big holes in his technique.
Trouble is Pietersen goes through spells where he gets out for nothing very cheaply. Plus he's injured and will be tough for him to get back in time. I'd put him in though lol
I am happy about Root and I think Compton deserves a series as a chance to cement his place - agree about Bairstow though. KP coming back would shore up that particular gap and then some. Bowlers really need to stay fit as well though.
He's a match winner, simple as that. And, like Cook, he's also very good second innings which is massively important. The bowlers are there, although Broad is also hot and cold, as is the keeper. We just can't have the three new young batsment in at once, the whole set up of the side changes. Can't wait for the ashes, got me ticket for Trent Bridge which is always a great days piss up. I mean play, play!
