Cabaye looks like a good player, heard he plays a similar game to Raul Meireles. My fear though is that as a "box-to-box" midfielder, he is also similar to a certain Mr.Barton and therefore being lined up as a replacement. Having said that, he is very consistent and works very hard for the team so hopefully would fit in well. My thoughts are that something has to give as it would be hard to accomodate him, barton, nolan in the same first 11.

Yeah, even though I think Barton might stay this season

I think he would reject a move away unless it was to a bigger team than us

Yep, I'm hopeful, he'd still give his all even if he knew he was off at the end of the season. In terms of "bigger" clubs than us (i.e. title chasing, cup chasing, more money etc) there's really not that many that would take a 29+ year old joey barton. The likes of Utd, City, Chelsea, Liverpool (he wouldnt go to them out of his love for Everton anyway), Arsenal woulnt go for him. I would be fearful of an approach from Spurs (although their midefield is flooded at present) or Villa (seeing as they have lost Reo-Coker) and Everton.

Good news! Although I hope this isn't the potential replacement for Barton. I'll prefer Nolan to go before Barton if I'm honest. <ok>

Tiote, Barton, Cabeye, Nolan, Guthrie, Gosling & Smith. Smith will have to go that's for sure. Maybe loan out Gosling for a few months(with a clause to bring him back). <ok>

wow, if this is true, i'm impressed with Ashley. 15 mil for Gervinho, 10 mil for Gameiro, looks like he kept his word <ok>

"With his intelligence and technical game, Yohan Cabaye could easily play in the starting XI of Barcelona." Lille coach Rudi Garcia

YES. A box-to-box technical midfielder is perfect, although isn't that similar to Barton's style of play? Either way a very good signing at that price. Lille are the current French champions so to get him at that price is a cracking piece of business. Smith I'll imagine will be leaving and maybe Gosling can get some regular games to boost his confidence in the Championship(6/3 month loan with clause to bring him back). <ok>

Very good strength in depth in CM now :

Tiote, Barton, Cabeye(assuming he signs), Nolan, Guthrie, Gosling & Smith(hope he gets sold ASAP).

Another plus should this transfer come off, is the fact that he seems injury free. I mean he's played a lot of games for Lille since he's been there so looks like a regular name on the teamsheet, the kind of player we need.

If Tiote can get his disciplinary record sorted out, we could have a very settled and consistent midefield of Tiote, Cabeye, Guti and Nolan/Barton
