    Has he gone yet?

    Has the club shut down?

Shall I go support Man United now, they win things and are very big in Asia, apparently.

That's OK providing that you don't intend to move to Manchester.

As I stated in my post but it's not a case of lend me some money I'll pay you back mate. It's put the money up because there is not a possible chance that you will not get it back. The money will definitely be received contracturally and is as good as an asset at the moment. hence the club's value at the moment WILL include money that will definitely be received over the course of the next year. We are a very saleable club BUT at the moment a very expensive one to buy.

I think Downthe36's point is that the Liebherrs don't have to put any money up at all. They could conceivably refuse to do so this summer and then just pocket the Sky cash as a dividend when it comes in.

Exactly this, from what seems to be flying about this week the Liebherrs don't sound to be the most up together on their football knowledge. They could quite conceivably turn around and say, "you stayed up last year with that squad if you want to buy someone new then you'll have to sell someone, and we'll have whatever is left after paying salaries."

The idea that they might want to plow all this new Sky money back into this club is a huge if. If I owned Saints that's exactly what I would do, because I am a football fan.

Tomorrow's presser seems to kick off at 08:30 - will be interesting at least to see how Poch responds to the Cortese questions.

8:30? Christ, that's a bit early, they're obviously hoping that the press don't make it there on time!

I agree entirely with that however I cannot believe that they would not take advice on the subject. People don't get to where they are purely off their own thoughts. They take advice from all corners and decide from there.

If they were to be in the 'status Quo' camp and next season we were to go down they would have missed out on a huge amount of money from not selling. To me it's either invest or sell. I would guess the 'difference' is in the how much to invest rather than 'we don't want to' region. Namely that maybe the Liebherr's and advisors accept that they need to invest to advance in the league but do not see the expansion as 'value for money' at the moment.

That expansion is something that is one of Cortese's key things. I personally could see that this is the stumbling block and not that he wants £50m for transfers and the Liebherr's say you can only have £25m.

As for your last statement I would beg to differ :) I am also a football fan, Saints through and through but I'm poor so I'd keep some for me :)

No one would miss a sneaky million! Ha ha!

Totally agree with the invest or sell statement. I've yet to see any good come from a football club being owned by a disinterested party.

Pochettino is busy on Friday, so he asked them to come before training on a Thursday.

I feel sorry for any reporters having to travel down!

Can understand the Liebherr trust not wishing to throw any additional funds at the club.
Sunderland, Stoke & Aston Villa have all spent large sums on transfers in the recent past and are on par with us and there net worth has not increased.
Think WBA & Swansea are the financial models to follow.
So if that means we can't afford a Ramirez size transfer this summer then so be it. I'd settle for keeping the current squad and looking for a couple of bargains. It's whether Mr. Cortese can settle for this.

That is all fine but unless you win a cup it won't get you into Europe. If NC is still committed to his long term plan then we will need to splash some cash!

You make the Liebherrs sound like a bunch of asset stripping British bankers. They have far more business acumen than you give them credit.

I'm not saying that they are definitely not going to invest, and I'm certainly not saying they are going to asset strip us. I am suggesting they may just be happy to maintain the status quo.

Which part of "business acumen" suggests that it's a good idea to fund Cortese's push for Europe, when the club is probably nearing it's maximum value already.

Mauricio Pochettino has told us this morning he will quit #saintsfc if Nicola Cortese retires as chairman

    Alex Goring Crook ‏@alex_crook 8m
Pochettino said: "I would not continue if Nicola Cortese was not here. It would not make any sense if I was at this club and he wasn’t."

Anyone with that much "business acumen" would not be involved in football. To their credit perhaps, it seems they don't really want to be!

I hope this is an oblique way of saying he doesn't think he will leave...
