Ashley Young to sign for Man United

Downing putting his contract talks on hold with a possible move to Liverpool on the cards.

    Come back home Darren??

I would quite happily refund Villa the £24 million or whatever for Bent

No thanks. Unbelievable Premier league player but considering he spent the last six months of eighteen at us moaning about wanting to to leave to Turkey or Villa; and playing like he was in a team of degenerates who he deserved better than... Nope. Disruptive to say the least. Wouldn't touch him.

Would never have him back he ****ed us over. I hope all of Villas good players leave and they get relagated next season.
Bent is a money grabbing prick.

No loyalty at all we got him from Spurs and gave him all the support he wanted and that was the thanks we got.

    **** BENT.

****ing hope Young doesn't go to United. He's so overrated and it'll be a bad signing for United.

I loved Bent when he was with us, his goals, his humility, his love of the club and us the fans. I did not blame him for leaving but the one thing I just cant get out of my memory is his speed at getting away and waiting in that hotel room.

I felt betrayed, let down, hurt to the core and for that he will never be welcomed back by me. Great goal scorer but very poor man.

but he's like that advert i remember, does exactly whats on the tin.

few footballers have loyalty, and bent certainly has none, but is good at his job.

if he returned and banged the goals in, got a feeling all would be forgiven.

just like villa have done, pay the money and reap the rewards, if it wasn't for him they may have been in the relegation battle, so he's proved his worth already.

I hear what you are saying mate but not for me, I want success but not at any price. I just could not cheer him or a team with him in it.

Its going to cost a bomb to replace his goals wether it be by 1 player or 2. I know it would have been a long shot but I wish we just splashed it all straight away on Luiz suarez but unfortunately Liverpool had eyes on him for a while, easy said after the impressive start he has made but sitting 6th and above Liverpool he could have been tempted

To paraphrase the great Shack : "I'm not biased about Sunderland. I don't care who scores for them".

The bottom line is we made a fatal error selling him. If things turn out the way they look like turning out, then Bent made a fatal error going there, too. So let's us and Darren both just grin ruefully and get on with the job. If we can get him back for £24m I hope we take their friggin' hand off.

Where will we get better - or even remotely equal to him?

I would buy him back and stick him in the reserves for 4 years and let him rot tbh.

It is ironic though that he went there because they have world class players who could set him up on a plate, and it looks like most of those players are leaving (if you believe the rumours anyway).

its history lets move on and be even better, instead of a 1 man goal scoring machine (and he wasnt even that really) not worth 24 million and i wouldnt have him back anyway, he has burnt his bridges with us im afraid.

Sorry, I just cant see how we made an error selling him, just dont get it. He is a fantastic goal scorere but a fantastic scorer who was not scoring, why, because he wanted out and had done all season.

We did keep him last summer, we did what many say we should have done again and kept him, he stopped scoring and stopped trying, a 20 goal a season player who is not scoring 20 goals is not.

He wanted out and engineered a way out and when I, and lots of you, sat on that Monday afternoon near tears, judas was at his new home.

    **** him.

Syd : he scored eight goals for us this season. That's nearly halfway to his usual 20 and he'd had a month out with injury. As far as the Brum hotel is concerned, you saw what happened to Andy Carroll's house - would you have hung around for that? I'm sure I wouldn't.

At the end of the day, you either want this club run professionally with heads, or amateurishly with hearts. He scores goals better than most, we score goals worse than most. Put the past behind you, and let's move up that table. Sign him. It's the right thing to do for the club.

Professionally or amateurishly? - take your pick. But we're not going to progress by stamping our feet.

and you thin he would even come back?

the club may love him back, personally i wouldnt, but who says he would want to come back, and even if he did, he would probably want away again in 6 months, so meh, not worth the headaches tbh.

PS: if we did get him back it would be amateurish and not professional at all.

It's professional to turn down a guaranteed 20 goals a season? I don't quite get that.

I don't know if he'd come back. But if Young and Downing are jumping ship, it looks like Bent made a mistake going there. He'd be a fool not to review his options. I'd give him the option, and let him do the thinking.

He probably wouldn't want away in another six months because he's made one mistake. He'd think long and hard before doing it again.

I can only repeat that I could not and would not cheer him or a team with him in it, call me childish, amateurish, stupid or whatever you like, it does not annoy or offend me because I am being honest. Do I want my club to be the best in the world, would love it, do I want it at any cost, no.

The Andy Carroll example, no, does not wash. Bent could not wait to get away and turn his back on us, again thats not my problem, his I love it here, I love the club and its fans, the badge kissing, that my problem.

I can honestly say if Bent returned my season ticket would go back, thats how hurt I was.

Its not the goals its the player and nothing is gauranteed in this world.

Sorry, but i wouldnt have him back in a million years, he jumped ship let him stew in whatever mess villa are seemingly in.

PS: I think it had a lot to do with Capello, 2 games into his Villa Stint, he had 40 touches in 2 games, 2 inside the box, and scored 2 goals, both virtually open goals, but yet he was a lot better player.

Pretty sure Capello said he would have to move to get a starting place (regular) so he moved.
