You raise some very valid points there Jager, which clearly our cousins are having some trouble digesting! most clubs always worry about the turmoil that comes with a manager leaving, even Everton are resigned to seeing some of their better players going in the summer, after Moyes going, so it's interesting times indeed, glad that Laudrup has come out and said he's not interested, even his agent has confirmed, but has Malky said anything? the silence is deafening!....................
Some rubbish on this thread. If Malky goes, then Malky goes. I want him to stay, but so be it if he goes. But for people to try to equate a change of manager with disaster, especially since Swansea could say each managerial change has been good for them, is ridiculous. A new manager would hardly mean the whole campaign is ruined. We may even pull a manager with Prem experience or with some great ideas. Malky number one choice for sure, but hardly the end of the world if he leaves.
Who has said it's the end of the world ? You progressed after Dai Jones left you which is good news. But you got to admit if he goes now as you are building for the first campaign in the premier league it is going to cause problems. When we changed managers it wasn't the season we went up to a higher league, I think it would have caused us problems as well. And Siam just because I have an opinion it doesn't make that opinion rubbish because I don't support Cardiff , I'm a football fan and I have seen this situation many times over the years. And as both our managers are being linked its a discussion that we both have in common.
Jäger, the rubbish comment is completely valid about the thread. The vast majority of Jack input on this thread is wumming. You raise points for actual discussion but your fans point of view is being cheapened by the drivel that Phil and project started the thread with. Everton are a bigger much more established PL side than both of us. They won't pay Laudrups fees so he's a non starter anyway. After Brendan last year your fans shouldn't really be shouting about 'he's said he doesn't want to go' though. I think MM is a perfect fit for them but that also explains the media doing so much 2+2 equals type reporting. The radio link that Phil posted earlier contained an expert opinion that had apparently been gathered by reading the BBC sport website. If he goes we're still in the PL and just like everyone else we'll have 38 games to stay there. The quality of the recruitment is the key but Swansea know that better than anyone. So far VT has got rid of DJ and replaced him with Malky. He employed exactly the right man last time to built the squad we needed and get us promoted. Do you think a PL side with a £25m plus budget will be short of options for a new man?
Of course we wont. As long as he doesnt appoint someone like Mark Hughes we will be fine. There will be on shortage of candidates for the Capital and No.1 club in Wales!!!
Well we know it comes from talkshite, so taken with a pinch of salt. You won't have a problem replacing him if it happens, what's important is to find someone that continues with what is being built already, so a man that fits into Cardiff's vision, not one that changes everything. And the £25m figure don't go far if you get the wrong man in. Anyway it's all idle speculation and part of the parcel of going into the big time, if it happens it happens I guess. I suppose I'm quite blasé about it as we've had 4 managers in a relatively short period of time.
That must be quite comforting for you, I mean its out of two clubs , and it matters little to the other 18 clubs in the premier league. And if Mark Hughes ever comes near your club I would question the sanity of the people who appointed him.
I honestly think that MM was employed because of his vision for the whole club. It has worked brilliantly up to now, IF Malky goes VT will definitely be looking for continuation of the job that is under way. As you say though MM hasn't gone anywhere yet
Yes Jager, I also took the "rubbish" comment made by Siam about some of the thread content as being perfectly justified. Don't think he was applying the term to all posters nor the thread as a whole, just some of the arsehole comments made by Phil and others. Two things would need to happen. Everton have to decide they want Malky, and then Malky has to decide that he wants it. I've little doubt that if he was offered it, he'd go despite the reasons laid out on this thread why he shouldn't. I don't think he'll get the offer - they'd view Martinez as a safer pair of hands.
Martinez looks like he's getting relegated using similar resources to those that Everton have. He won't be looking to lump the ball up the pitch at Fellaini (if he's still there) and Anichebe either. Moyes has succeeded with a very direct style this season. Evertons squad is not set up for Martinez at all IMO. He's also rubbish at defending and Everton have been built on 1-0 type success under Moyes. MM looks like the continuity option for Everton to me. I hope I'm wrong though and I should add that I think Martinez is one of the most overrated managers in English football. His Wigan side is dire far more often than it is brilliant and looks like it will be deservedly relegated. There I've said it, now watch them go and beat Man city.........
Stevo - Malky would be the avant garde move for Kenwright, Martinez has been there and done it whether his time at Wigan is viewed as "successful" or otherwise. Personally, I disagree that Martinez has had similar resources at Wigan to Moyes at Everton. Everton are a massive club compared to them, and would attract (and be able to pay for) a far higher quality player base. Also not so sure that Martinez should be regarded as a piss poor manager. If Malky did leave, I'd take him down here instead.
MM replacing Moyes wouldn't be a bad thing. Moyes has a 6 year contract at Man U. In 6 years MM will be coming into his prime as a manager. Why wouldn't Man U want him. I'd be happy for MM to use us a learning ground for 6 years.
True - only thing I tell myself is that they weren't as explicit as this statement. Then again Rodgers's whole "I'm here to build a career not destroy it" nonsense does teach a lesson about trusting what these folk are saying. You are right about the media joining the dots - why else was Laudrup there? Manager of a smaller club, doing well, that'll be him linked then. It would be interesting to speculate who would be a worthwhile appointment should he go - but I remember snapping at someone who suggested that when Rodgers was linked to Liverpool. Calling him WUM etc etc and I wouldn't want t be a hypocrite. That said, whilst a negative would be that a manager would have to come in and work out the current squad before finding replacements, a positive would be that it would prevent sentimentality coming into play and keeping players you shouldn't. Track record is right in hiring, as you point out, and, if he has any sense, he will go for a similar manager who will know how to use the players you have and what you need to grow. That said, I put on another link that it's a shame that (like us when we went up) that these sorts of things take the sheen off of what should have been a summer of sheer joy. May be best to move on to thinking about the possible transfers and think "what will be will be" as far as the manager. Kenwynne Jones for 7m. A bit rich but would be a good focal point. I would advise players with that bit of creative spark to feed him.
It is a pity this is currently overshadowing promotion but that's the price of success. When Man U lose Ronaldo to Real I think it shows that pretty much however 'big' you get you'll always have these issues. If no one wants your players or manager you're in much bigger trouble! Not sure about kenwyn, we need someone like him, but it'd be nice if we could uncover a Benteke rather than someone who's struggled to hold down a mid table PL place.
I was basing it on the sort of fees they both spend but you're definitely right that players will sign for Everton a lot more easily and they're a much bigger club. I'm not sure the gap between Everton and wigans resources should be a 6th to 18th difference though and what I previously mentioned about styles and players would concern me if Martinez came here. We're a very solid outfit, we'll win games next year by keeping teams out rather than out scoring them in high scoring matches.
Now, all Wumming aside (I would prefer to call it banter but it has been stated as wumming here so we will go with that) this is my honest assessment which has no scientific value, it is just an opinion. Evertons interest:.......... Laudrup: Interest from Everton - Yes Approach - Unlikily Stumbling Blocks - £10M compensation, no competition advantage due to both clubs being in the same competitions Martinez: Interested from Everton - Yes Approach - Likely Stumbling Blocks - None, small compensation package and Europa/Premier League guaranteed Mackay: Interested from Everton - Yes Approach - Likely Stumbling Blocks - Some, mid level compesnation package but can offer Europa League football. *** It is hard to see Everton losing their Europa League spot at this stage, there are only two games left. All three managers are special, they have real talent, but one is completely priced out, they other is not really cheap with a £3M buyout clause and the other is relatively cheap prise away. But additionally the two managers will get Europa League football, and I think Martinez will be easiest to persuade away from his club as Wigan are in real danger of going down.
There is another potential twist in all this. If Everton get Lennon would Malky then go to Celtic? Just a thought.
