good avb article

I dunno if it's because of AVB or what but, along with the horrific realisation that Holtby reminds me more of Steffen Freund than he does VDV (they both seem to think that the game of football is best played by sliding around on your arse most of the time), I now get a certain familiar sensation with almost the entire Spurs midfield; they all look like they have quality that isn't being expressed, look like they're afraid to make mistakes or take risks, love a predictable sideways or backwards pass, you wonder why they don't attack more - it's like a team full of Jermaine Jenases!

But we're they actually his signings spurcat?
We wanted lloris and vertonghen long before he took over, and as early as when Harry was still in charge.
They smell like levy deals to me. Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm sure you'll know best. <ok>
 
I would like to know how many of them were his choice,Dempsey, for instance seem to have been a panic buy by Levy.I also think we will play better next season,as everyone will have a better understanding of each other.this season is almost over,and i'm now looking forward to the next,hopefully succesful one
 
Have to say, I think he comes across as very likeable in his interviews (as much as any manager does). I was hoping for something a bit more revolutionary in tactics (this tactical genius thing seems a tad overdone), but the players seem to like him - especially Bale. If he is the reason Bale stays another year, then more power to his elbow.
 
People keep saying that Levy chooses the players we buy. Surely that can't be true. They must be chosen by the footballing staff and then Levy negotiates the deals. If someone has knowledge that this is wrong please say where it comes from.
 
I find this all a bit bemusing. According to some posters we've got a chairman who costs us a few points a year by his ineptitude in the window, and a manager who is clueless and out of his depth and we are playing crap. Nevertheless we will finish 5th at worst which is above one of the teams who have a much higher budget than us and very close to or with a bit of luck, above, one or two more teams with a bigger budget. Surely a bit of credit is due somewhere...

Bayern Munich are spending a fortune buying the best players from their closest rivals at present, in readiness for next season, yet their new manager hasn't even taken up his position yet! You have to assume that Guardiola is being consulted; no club would be stupid enough to sign players the manager might not have in his plans. I'm sure AVB has the last word on which players are bought and sold at Spurs. Levy might negotiate the financial terms of any transfers, but the manager will have decide which players he wants in his team, surely? Only Abramovich would be arrogant enough to think he knows better about team selection than the manager he has appointed to do that job!!

Levy, Sherwood, and to a certain extent David Pleat organise transfers, AVB has a small input. This is from a club insider...Spurcat. You ask for written clarification, do you not think thats an impossible ask? what club publishes their transfer policy, and in what publication??? This is the way it is at Spurs, if you choose not to believe it thats entirely up to you. To suggest Levy chooses every player would be silly, you're right that 'staff' are obviously consulted, but DL is not just a negotiator from what I gather.

Or the squad is at this current level, and is robust enough to absorb changes to players and manager.
And the manager(s) deserves little/no credit.

The issue seems to be that we are relying on said rivals to not perform at their on-paper strength
(which they have been doing for a couple of seasons now :) ) , while Spurs try to find that bit extra to
make them pay for it.

Vertonghen and Sigurdsson were signed before he arrived (and Verts was a target last January), and do you really think he wanted Dempsey instead of Moutinho?

The Moutinho deal hit a snag over 3rd party ownership, similar to Damiao, with the 3rd parties moving the goalposts. Porto have apparently been undoing the 3rd party ties since, to make a transfer this summer possible...where wasn't mentioned. Personally we don't need him, not enough goals.

Err, who gives a **** when a contract was offered to be read? You said Sig signed BEFORE avb arrived, post #31, in saying that you imply he had nowt to do with it and you're subsequently wrong, or are you refusing to accept the conversation Sig speaks of did not take place?

You're wrong, just leave it and move on! :)

Entering into negotiations and offering him a contract before Andre arrived proves me right. Move on.

I'm very happy if that is the case: It is comments like "Dempsey was a last-minute Levy panic signing" that get me riled. We should use all our expertise in trying to sign the right players - Levy knows enough about football to have an input but shouldn't be the main driver

But to be fair, PS.... he was.

The names Notso mentions, help Levy with cheap alternatives.
Dempsey was signed last minute once we'd let Kane go out to Norwich (or when we'd identified Dempsey last min, to then let allow Kane to go)

There's no way Dempsey was a "top target" for us. There'd been no talk of it all summer and he looked like he was on his way to Liverpool, if anyone.
When you factor in everything about his transfer, I don't see how he can be seen as anything other than a panic buy <ok>
