Proud I commend your loyalty to Nigel Pearson but frankly he's not for me ... charmless, tacticalkly inept and mediocre ... i for one would welcome a change ... and if we don't make the play-offs I think there is absolutely no chance that he will still be here next season. I didn't want to see Sousa sacked or Sven for that matter - thought they hadn't been given enough time ... but I really have doubts about Nigel Pearson's managerial skills and personally won't be sorry to see him replaced - nothing personal - just don't think he is the right man to take us forward and make us a force in the Premier League - absolutely no problem with others thinking different - but at the same time - nothing will convince me otherwise at this point in time. If he stays and turns out to be a tremendous success I would be the first to hold my hands up and admit I was completely wrong.
The problem is Proud, I dont think he has learned from his mistakes. He is exceptional in going to a club and sorting out driftwood - he has done this at Hull and here. He saved Southampton from getting relegated in his short reign there. He has a lot of pluses and an ideal manager in certain situations. However, what has happened since we were second in the league? Why are players looking beaten? Why do we resort to long ball tactics? These are firmly at the managers door. Has he learned anything? Judging by the Watford game, no. As soon as Watford scored we looked a beaten team. We played long ball. One or two players to be off form - fine. 6 or 7 then you have to ask why? Sorry, but even if we slip into 6th position and win the playoffs, I would still want him gone. He has to learn to manage people, not just sort out situations. I would love stability for a manager, just not this one.
Nige has now achieved something that no Leicester boss has managed in 41 years (yes, including the legendary Martin O'Neill). But some think he's just average.
Yes. He managed a team that is on paper by far the most expensive team in the league, and only barely got them into the playoffs - I'd say he has a fair way to go to achieve average status - got to be the fail of the season (after Wolves that is). Only way he can redeem this almighty cock up is by winning the playoffs.
I'd say your collapse from 8th to surviving on the last day was a serious contender for fail of the season. This league is tough and our target was top six. No team should demand more than that. We made it, that's all that matters. All this "most expensive squad" bollocks is very boring. Sven left a season and a half ago now and our spending since then has hardly been extravagant. Very few of Sven's expensive signings are still part of the team. We've invested in youth (we have one of the youngster squads in the football league) which will pay off in the long run so it's not like Pearson has even attempted to buy instant success. Sven certainly did, but not Nige. We've done things the right way this season and we have also been more successful - hardly a failure in any sane mind.
Us, Barnsley and Peterborough have the lowest wage bill in the league by a very wide margin - for us and Barnsley to stay up is a massive overachievemnt - Jackett and Flitcroft are arguably the best 2 managers in this league for what they have done this season As for you not trying to buy success - I think you actually believe that
You don't seem to understand the distinction between building for success - buying young promising players for relatively small fees (around £1m mark) - and buying success - bringing in established Premiership/top end of the Championship names. Which players has Nige signed that fit into the latter category? Regarding wages - there's proof you get what you pay for then. Do you think any of you will EVER make the play-offs paying low wages? Clinging onto a lower Championship spot is the best you can hope for. We won't be able to really assess Jackett and Flitcroft until they're at decent clubs.
TC Chris Wood kept you up this season. Unless you can sign some decent strikers you will be screwed next season. Jackett got you duds like Rob Hulse and Theo Robinson. They arent going to get you anywhere If you ask nicely we will send you Jermaine Beckford
... until he proves he can manage in the Prem that's exactly what he is ... and we are not there yet and shouldn't go counting any chickens - just hope he has learnt something from the recent loss to Watford ... having said all that I am over the moon with the result ... thought Blackpool might get a point at Bolton but for us to win at Forest is absolutely fookin marvellous ... so well done to both team and management ...
Pearson is still a young manager. Hell he's only ten years older than Giggs! His brief stint at Carlisle aside (last day heroics!), he only started managing in 2008. In that time he keep Southampton in the Championship (last day heroics!), he's got us promoted to the Championship and got us to the play-offs twice (last day heroics today!) and steadied the since ship at Hull (who have now been promoted off the back of his work) and here last season (reaching the play-offs this season off the back of that work). If that five year career is average I'd hate to see what you think of Nigel Clough. In favour of your arguement though, we did have a bit of a bad run. Getting to the Prem doesn't necessarily make you a good manager. Would you have Dowie, Warnock, Brown or Holloway back? I wouldn't. Developing a squad that is sustainable for the future while achieving steady success is far more desirable.
Millwall what a joke club...scumbag fans disgusting little club. How did that late push for the play offs that you predicted work out for you TC?
We got a huge slice of luck to make the playoffs, theres is no mistake about that. As for Mr pearsonality,(see what i did there), lets just see how we do against watford over 2 legs. I think for me, get promoted or not, i'm really not bothered if he stays or goes. He is forever talking about player egos, but there is none bigger than his own i feel, otherwise how can he fall out with so many of his staff, just my personal opionion, but i'm not really a fan
Please actually read my posts - nowhere did I say 'getting to the Prem' made anybody a good manager - I intimated that proving that you could manage in the Prem successfully would indicate an above average manager ... and I hold to that.
