Well we all know that the Scum have been continually posting a composite league table since the Premiership began.

Well -my point, this is just one time frame and there can be many others

So, how about the last 3 seasons only, isn't that also valid? Possibly more so, as it reflects the current situation and not the ancient history of club non-entities and the non-existent (eg, Wimbledon)

It looks to me like Wigan are a BIGGER CLUB than Noocarsel <laugh><laugh><laugh><laugh><laugh>

You trully are a sad little man, hows about you do a table of when both teams have been in the Premier League together and see who is top clown

There's another one who cannot handle it, we finish above them and I churn up a different statistic

Shameless, don't get so worked up about it. People are getting confused over the uses of these all-time league tables. They are meant purely for interest.

As you say Shameless, there are statistics that can be used to back both teams claims: it just appears that the poor little Gremlin can't handle this fact!

Some people get far too involved in the rivalry though, and start taking into account stuff that doesn't even matter. The amount of bullshit statistics I've seen posted on 606 boards over the years is staggering.

I would say it's been a fair season for the old rivalry though. We got one over on you's by battering you, and then you got one over on us by finishing above us. Unfortunately some people can't see it quite as simply as that.

I would go along with that..<ok>

I'm not worked up at all and this took me little more than 20-25 mins to knock out.

Many of your brethren have published over-and-over the League table since the Premiership began and I have argued it's non-validity verbally with them and to little avail (well, they appear to be quite stupid most of them: exc simonbs, chappie, o-toon)

- perhaps they needed to see what I was referring to in 'black-and-white'? I know it's just statistical jiggery-pokery, but so is the league table referred to above

Both are equally valid as they both select a time-frame

You don't have to spend long on here before you realise that people from both sides will brag over literally anything. Over time, I've seen arguments about government funding, size of local shopping facilities, obesity rates, the fact that Oasis played Sunderland and not Newcastle, the naming of local TV and radio, the amount of metro stations each city has, handwashing statistics...I could go on but I won't.

Well said, big dave. You can juggle figures till the cows come home. For example, we have six league championships to Newcastle's four. But they've won more than us since 1896 (our 2 to their 4). But we've won more since 1935 (our 1 to their nil) - blah, blah.

There's only two figures that really count. Sunderland have six championship titles to Newcastle's four. And if you add on the FA Cup and Uefa Cup, Newcastle have won 11 trophies to Sunderland's 8.

As far as support is concerned, up until 1970 or so, thousands of miners and their wives from all over the coalfield used to get the coach at the village WMC, and go into Newcastle. The wife would do the shopping while the fellas were all good United fans. And the next week those same miners and their wives would catch the coach into Sunderland where the same fellas would become Sunderland fans. Newcastle people were purely for Newcastle, and Sunderland people were purely for Sunderland, always. But there were thousands from the pit villages who were both. It's only since the 1970s that we became polarized and started fighting on the streets.

And I bet my beer belly is bigger than yours!!!! <cheers>

There's another one for your collection...<laugh>

Bloody hell Shameless: where do you get these pics from?
I don't know if you have noticed yet but you seem to be getting some belated support for being the most annoying supporter on the mags board! <laugh>
